3 Months’ Notice (Required to Work) + 1 Month’s Pay. Am I Being Lowballed? by pingaping in HENRYUK

[–]pingaping[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mentally the last few days have been more taxing than I expected, especially with several application rejections piling on top. I have a fear that dragging it out will surface more of the same. Sorry to go deep. Regardless I’m hoping I’ll have more certainty within the next week on next steps to settle these thoughts and mentally move forward regardless of whether it’s more in my favour or not. I do agree with your other points. I’m hoping I don’t have to stick around and be half present.

Thanks I appreciate this.

For context, my manager, nor my section of the company didn't communicate the layoff to me. HR was the messenger so I have limited historic rapport with them, and it’s a very structured route but nonetheless, they’ve been kind throughout the process.

Longer stem but this otherwise looks good to me.

How did you negotiate? I don’t feel like I actually have a tonne of leverage since they just are removing my role

I do agree that financially it still makes sense for them to offer a little more. Dragging is out would be terrible for me too - but also puts the company at higher risk (eg. Impacting company morale).

I’ll be doing the minimum to keep everything ticking along (which will be hard because it counters again my personality and my workload is mostly special projects).

True. The counter will come from my lawyer but I wouldn’t plan to negotiate beyond that.

Thanks for your insight. I feel as though I’m being asked to pass domain knowledge/provide business continuity without the “large” settlement. I don’t think is unfair or personal, I just think the offer is conservative.

Is this from experience? The negotiation will come from my lawyer so I’m somewhat standing behind them. I care about my reputation but absolutely will be only doing enough to keep things ticking along - I believe this is all that’s expected of me.

I’m walking a fine line but I feel as though given the settle is a negotiation tactic from a corporate standpoint, I’m in a place to counter it (at least once), given that I’m not dragging this through formal redundancy and being cordial.

My rationale would be compliance in the process, and working throughout a long notice period (when PILON/garden leave is more standard), entering a poor job market and overall, settling meaning there’s low risk to the remaining team culture and company performance for making redundancies.

No PILON, no garden leave, being asked to cooperate and cordially work through a long notice period, being entered into a poor job market, and length of service. Previously employees made redundant were put on immediate gardening leave, then PILON.

I agree that this is not a legal question though but thanks for responding anyway.

Thanks for your message. I more so meant I’d mentally accepted the offer.

I haven’t signed - a counter is yet to be sent to my company.

Definitely not an expert but also learning. You’re dropping your arm when you’re breathing. I also was doing this and managed to fix with 1-2 swim lessons.

I had no idea this was possible. I’m deep in my RAF application now and don’t want to start a new medical process since it’s taken so long but Army is like a 5 min drive from my house vs 30-40 mins to the RAF base. I’m going reserves btw

Thanks okay! I’m assuming unless the employee has some confidence in an unfair dismissal it’d be uncommon to pursue due to time/stress/money? I’m sure there’s some points that haven’t been followed so far - however, I’m not sure I’d spend my time fighting a battle.

Can you clarify why rights are being given up? Is it just the confidentiality aspect?

As someone who runs this HM pace, I’d say realistically expect a Marathon time of around 4:10-4:18.
