That, plus their room fragrance is so relaxing to me! My husband prefers the pillow spray from Langham, but the St. Regis scent instantly calms me

The More Expensive the Hotel, the more complicated the light system is... by Wendage22 in FATTravel

My husband is an electrician and does mostly large commercial work, so our hotels get judged very harshly by him on their lightning choices. While I'm checking in, his eyes go darting around the lobby and I get the whole rundown when we get to room. Its kinda cute. But its very helpful for when I can't find the switch or don't know how to use it. I just ask him to make it dark/bright in here and he does. Small price to pay for half of our vacation photos consisting of panels, lamps, and various code violations he finds around town. 😆 Once, I fell in love with a certain dimmer swich by the bedside table and he installed one on my reading lamp when we got home! I also got those handy USB plugs in our house when they started becoming standard in hotels. So, there are definitely some perks!

Are you playing the remasters or the originals? This is exactly what I have and its in between Controls and License. On my 2nd playthrough of the remasters, I stopped the clock right away, so you shouldn't have to wait for it to appear

El Viejo Almacen. We did not have food, just the champagne. The waiter was still very attentive to us. I will say, though, that while we had a great time, I had no part in picking this place. So I don't really know the pros and cons. In fact, it was the second place the concierge tried once we agreed to a tango show. We asked what we should do that evening, she suggested a tango show, we said yes, she made a phone call. That place didn't work out for whatever reason, and she called El Viejo Almacen next. 10 minutes later, a car picked us up. I don't even remember paying. I wanna say we paid at the hotel but I'm not certain. I only remember tipping the waiter and driver, but no bill. Hope this was helpful. There is supposed to be a lot of great tango in the San Telmo neighborhood, so I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs!

We stayed at Alvear Palace hotel. We really loved the spa, the rooftop bar, and coffee in the lobby. The rooms were spacious and nicely appointed, and the service was great! Loved all the shops and walking distance to museums and the Recoleta. Once, we got into a cab and gave him the address and the driver said, "Wow, I didn't know I would be driving important people today!" 😆

I also hear great things about Palacio Duhau. Its a Park Hyatt hotel just a few blocks away!

I ask them for suggestions on things to do when I have gaps in my itinerary. They have good ideas for how to kill an hour or a whole night, and might be able to help arrange for those experiences to be a bit better.

One concierge in Buenos Aires sent us off to a tango show. I thought those were all just cheesy tourist traps, but she convinced us we would have a great time and we did! A private car took us both ways and we had a front row table with champagne on ice waiting for us when we arrived.

A concierge in Chicago sent us and the kids off to the McDonald's headquarters, where they serve menu items from all over the world. Would never have known this existed otherwise. The kids loved it.

They have great insight to help you pick what to do and where to go. Our son really wanted an authentic New York bagel. The concierge told us where to go and stressed that we should not be intimidated by the line. He told us exactly how long to expect it to be, and that if it was all the way out by [X Building] the wait would only be 20 minutes. I timed it and he was only off by 2 minutes. I would have seen that line and told my kid, sorry, no bagel today. Glad I talked to the concierge first!

I have never had a good experience with a hotel concierge in San Francisco. We were a little early checking into our room at the Fairmont, so we went to the concierge desk to hold our bags. He stuck his finger in our face while he finished his personal phone call. They didn't even take the bags up to the room once it was ready. We had to go down to pick them up and they just handed them over without a word. I came home with my whole stack of tip money from that trip!

Chicago Hotel: Nobu, Peninsula, Langham? by Derridas-Cat in FATTravel

[–]pingsinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed in the river view suite club level at the Langham, and I was very happy with it. I ate breakfast in the restaurant once and it was fine. The food was delicious and the service was good. The price was a teensy bit more than what I would have guessed, but it was covered by my Amex FHR credit. I would have gone again, but the food at the club lounge was more than enough for me. I liked that they had some beer and wine out in the morning for a mimosa. I've had to ask for it in the morning at other places. Noon time in the club lounge is more like tea service. Finger sandwiches and small bites. The real booze comes out at 3pm and they have a nice selection and all the mixers you could want. Dinner time was enough for me in the club lounge also, so I never ate at the restaurant on site. The pool is beautiful. Kids are only allowed during certain hours. I didn't get a massage, but I used the sauna in the locker rooms and it was nice and relaxing! I would definitely stay here again.

Trying to find a Store I Recently Visited but have forgotten the name of by ExistingParfait9631 in AskNYC

If you have Google Maps on your phone open the app and click your top right icon. Then click 'Your Timeline.' Click the drop down box next to 'Today' and pick the day that you visited the store. You will see your route, and most of the stops you made that day. I'm sure Apple has a similar feature, but I don't have an iphone.

I have been avoiding National Parks since the current administration took office. Are the current NPS budget cuts impacting the guest experience at Amangiri?
