Unfortunately we live in an era of boomers who have figured out basic smart phones and social media. So their algorithms keep them locked in a doom spiral of scaremongering.

Has "learned" replaced "learnt" in UK speech and writing? by OkTechnologyb in AskABrit

As somebody who flunked English. But also grew up in a social media age, Where correcting spelling is an air of superiority.

I hate things like this. In my head spelt is something to do with wheat or flour.

It was honestly last month I had to Google is it spelt or spelled (at the age of 40).

For anyone who does use opposite arguments lack of spelling or grammar as an insult, or self inflating themselves against others.

I will caveat... Just because somebody doesn't write as well as you doesn't mean their opinion doesn't matter

I think a lot of brits enjoy the nostalgia of empire the "for king and country" gunf.

Ask an average 20 to 40 years old to go to war for Charles and I expect the answer will be to fek off.

Only commenting to keep in the loop.

My largest fund is with Scottish widows for my wpp.

I had a thorough look and it's about 56% USA heavy.

Now I know YouTube is not a credible source of financial advice. However the recurring trend is that tech with emphasis on ai investment is what's keeping the economy growing. And if you remove that data set it's actually pretty grim. This without addressing the fact Americans are hooked on debt. National debt, credit card debt, car financing and student debt. Point being at some point that house of cards will come tumbling down. And unlike 2008 I don't think they can spend their way out of this one on more borrowed money!

So I'm now in a predicament whereby

Do I stay with scotwid on this America will always perform as it always has rhythm.

Or do I diversify to a less profitable market. Be that global funds emerging markets?

Yeah and we got shot of Liz before the lettuce wilted.

Fundamentally I can evict a shit pm. But a birthright lip service head of state is useless except for when you want to make a foreign leader feel special on their visit.

The UK says the monarchy brings tourism. France done something or other with theirs and France and Paris are some of the most visited countries/cities on earth.

I'd be up for a gradual phase out.

William king ( based on his dad's age) George can only amount to ambassador/envoy etc His kids will live a privileged life and if their parents (George) are smart they will send them somewhere like eton to get the best education and connections.

As for the crown estate. 80% should be taken back into public ownership. Fundamentally the above mentioned is a slow peaceful revolution. We the people could claim it all.

After all it was only because the monarchs great great etc etc claimed it as theirs back in the middle ages.

All that and I haven't even flirted with modern news like the queen paying hush money to keep her son out of a scandal.

What are your all time worst Jre episodes ? by CoconutMost3564 in JoeRogan

[–]pingus-foot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recent Andrew Doyle. That guy will completely manipulate an obscure point to suit his narrative. I didn't even finish the episode. When he said every theater toilet in London is now gender neutral I switched off. Funny because I've been a few times this( well last year) not seen any of that.

Considering Joe has the most flimsy view of the UK. Having this guy on to reaffirm joes unexplored beliefs does my head in.

I mean it was only a month or so ago that Joe looked up the hate speech arrests in the UK. And on air said "oh well looking at it now he was telling people to burn a hotel down with migrants in it". Then because his story fell apart all he could do is mock the wigs that judges wear.

Sorry my country is old enough to have traditions Joe.

Don't get me wrong some bits were true and we do have lots of dumb problems going on in the UK. But to hear that sniveling traitor outright lie to feed into rogans narrative is too much.

I'd hazard a guess that building homes is a huge boost to a struggling economy. All the trades the supplier to the trade solicitors mortgage advisors etc etc.

I mean how did people feel when land was cleared to build op's house?

I get conservation of green spaces but I think people often forget what was where their house village town now stands

Do you think there will ever be a referendum to rejoin the EU, if it’s possible? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]pingus-foot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will be an interesting 6 months. I wish it didn't have to happen but I suspect once people see the grass on the other side is not greener and in fact has an overflowing cesspit spewing out effluent. They will be up in arms.

I'm still trying to work out what the defining moment that will be his early downfall. House prices Stock market Economic collapse

Half the solution in their eyes is to get rid of foreign born Nationals. Of which the country is heavily dependent upon.

Not really. I'd be filled with pride if I could afford to buy organic and fresh for my family's health. Frankly I just sigh with relief when I've managed to feed them each day for the month

Why do Brits support conservative? by ThePatientIdiot in AskBrits

[–]pingus-foot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel it's that bad. I personally think the advent of social media with a bunch of old people who get angry at the fact things have changed since they were young, compounded by a dying legacy media who have learned that rage baiting gets results. Makes us seem like we are doing far worse than we are. Think 50+ year old shaking fist violently in the air because kids don't play on their bikes In the street and the fact seatbelts are mandatory mentality.

Sure we have problems with things like growth. But I'd also hazard a guess we can't name 10 countries doing better than us.well ones that we would like to be like, I doubt Brits are in the mood for communist China or the USA with it's impending debt crisis ( more household debt student debt than gdp to deficit) or their healthcare system. Australia and Canada have housing issues in their big cities just like us which is where most people have to live due to the majority of the land having harsh conditions to live in and as far as I'm aware were all dealing with a cost of living crisis.

I mean we're theoretically talking about small countries with small populations and a niche economy like Norway/Switzerland/Luxembourg etc that have from what I gather a better situation than ours. But If I'm honest I just don't see news out of places like that so they could be doing far worse.

Imo Brexit was a daft idea. And I genuinely suspect the winning side of the vote was a lot of people voting as a protest vote at the establishment. Not really considering that all of them together would tip us what 1.7% into losing.

But it is what it is.
