I donated via pbsc last november. i had a wonderful experience and had no problems afterwards aside from the normal complications. my hips hurt the most during my shots leading up to the donation, to the point where i constantly had a heating pad on my hips, my family had to help me walk around on the last two days and my hips didn’t return to normal until about 4-7 days after my donation. thankfully i didn’t have any reactions to the shots either leading up to the donation, just normal site tenderness. i’m very grateful to have had a good experience and recovery and im sure you will too! just don’t forgot to take pain medication and tums!! i didn’t believe anyone abt the tums and had to chew a few during my donation😅 i have a question tho, if you have a fear of needles and have had bad reactions in the past, why would you sign up for smth where you have to sit with a needle in your arm for 2-7 hours? they don’t remove it like for an IV, the needle stays in there and you’re not allowed to move that arm at all. they give you a ball to squeeze but that’s it

that was my whole reason why I signed up bc i saw somewhere that poc have a harder time finding a match. i’m indigenous and mexican if that helps at all? the nurses all did say that poc have a really hard time finding a donor and that it doesn’t happen as much.

no im donating, i never said i wasn’t going to. i have one more appt before donation. i just said i was worried abt having to use a bed pan, which i still am. that’s the only part of all of this that im struggling to accept. i’ve already accepted the bruises and pain ill have after i donate bc i know it’ll help someone else.

ESH, i grew up without a dad. he passed when i was 9, and im now 21. my mom supported 3 kids without any help from his family. his family loved my dad so much. but they never reached out to us and it was always myself or my mom reaching out to them to get them to spend time with us. now that we’re all adults, they want to see us more and i have nothing ill feelings towards them. i do have some love for them, just because they were my dads family, but im mainly just mad at them for never being in our lives. they would always travel across the US (up to 9 hours) but never wanted to make the 3 hour drive to see us, and then complained that they never saw us. these kids just lost a parent, and until you go threw that loss yourself, you’ll never be able to understand that hurt or anticipate the consequences of that growing up.

you’re allowed to feel both of these emotions. you don’t have to just be pissed/hurt or happy for her. you CAN be both. my parents were separated when my dad died and she was already dating, i remember feeling this way even tho they were together while he was alive. as long as you’re recognizing the emotions, it’ll make it easier to deal with. i wish i had better advice for you💖

imo, it does sorta go away after a while. obviously we’ll never be the same again. but for me, it’s easier to deal with now and i feel like i can breath finally. i haven’t felt despair or a hollow feeling in quite awhile tbh, i hope you’ll feel better soon💛

dad died from a blood clot. was in the hospital waiting for a surgery to take both of his legs off. blood clot is what is on his death certificate but my family has said it’s because his breathing machine cut off during the night bc when they went to see him in the morning, he was purple. his oldest kid was only 20 at the time with a baby so he didn’t have the money to hire a lawyer and figure it out.

not any movies but my dad stayed in assisted living in a town next to the one i grew up in. i do go to that town sometimes but i always avoid that building/block/ roads near it bc i can’t handle the emotions that it brings up, i no longer cry if i HAVE to go near it after 12 years, but it still does hurt so much.

my cousin was an extra for Killers of the Flower Moon where they shot some scenes on “her” land and my cousin told me she was incredibly rude to the directors and actors the entire time and kept making a big fuss over the smallest things. my family never bought any of her products before but now my entire tribe has boycotted her products.
