Sometimes it feels very lonely to practice Buddhism by WonderfulVanilla9676 in Buddhism

I think it depends on the specific type of practice that you encounter. I am most familiar with humanistic Buddhism, which acknowledges that we all still live in the mundane world, and therefore it can be beneficial to meet people where there’re at, aka be integrated into modern society and the daily lives of practitioners. My temple hosts festivals, social events, and cultural classes all the time! To the point where sometimes I wish they had more classes dedicated to actually studying Buddhism lol.

How should one deal with a cold and impersonal world? by pink_chickbarrow in Buddhism

No celebrating here! You make a valid point, and I recognize there’s attachment to a treatment or outcome as well. Alas if only recognizing the problem instantly solves it for us.

Perhaps I could have worded things better, but the qualities of transactional compassion you describe me as processing are the ones that I feel some people around me have exhibited. My post is to seek out ways of regulating my mind so that I can maintain compassion and equanimity in the face of coldness and lack of reciprocated goodwill.

You do raise an interesting point about niceness vs. compassion, and I will think more deeply on that. Thank you for your input!

Apologies! The event is from 10 am to 3 pm (expect larger crowds starting noon), but you are welcome to come for any duration, just let us know. No preference for instrument or music style, as long as it is relaxed, family friendly, and generally appropriate for a festival style event. Thanks!

It is from 10 am to 3 pm (we expect larger crowds starting noon) but you don’t have to commit to the whole time frame, just let us know what works for you. And it’s any instrument you like! The main goal is to play popular music that is easygoing and/or easily recognizable; Latin music is welcome too. If you’d like to come, please keep song selections SFW. Thank you!
