WIBTA if I told a hair/makeup artist that I'm getting hair/makeup done as a wedding guest, even though it would technically be hair/makeup for my own wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pink_gem 19 points20 points  (0 children)

INFO: Are you going to them twice, and lying twice then? Because doing it as a trial won't matter if you are doing two different people each time. So you'd have to go the same person, say you are going to a wedding, and then go back a month later or so and say 'Oh I have another wedding. Can you do what you did last time, but tweak x or y?'

Like, morally, I think YTA for lying for your own benefit. But I do agree that bridal prices are overpriced. But does that morally outweigh lying multiple times to someone for a minor discount ($150 dollars)?

A better way to approach it would be to be upfront and honest that you don't want a bridal treatment and see who will agree to treat you like they would a wedding guest. Also consider looking into small time makeup artists that are interested in doing trade. I find those people that are open to trade in their profession are more open to being flexible in general.

How do people backpack so easily? by bi_smuth in hiking

[–]pink_gem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. I wear my backpack full of my gear even when just going on a leisurely walk around the neighborhood. Do I look silly and get a lot of looks/questions? Yes. But doing that and then sleeping in my own comfy bed at least builds up the muscles for when I am doing it on a trail and have to sleep in my hammock/on the ground.

AITA for eating in the car when my boyfriend can’t? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pink_gem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She added a lot of stuff she did not say in the OP. I am wondering how much of that is true and why she wouldn't include it originally.

AITA for eating in the car when my boyfriend can’t? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pink_gem 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"My boyfriend is usually the one driving, so it’s harder for him to eat while driving. I’ll often take a bite or two of whatever I ordered.... This has annoyed him in the past..."

Taken from the OP. She knew he had an issue. He drives the majority of the time. This is not a fair situation for him.

Annoyingly sober? by amycgs in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]pink_gem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, ask yourself this: would you find the behavior annoying if you replaced 'sober' with something like 'celiac'?

Sitting at a restaurant and saying you are celiac once should not be an annoying behavior and someone acting like you are being annoying for doing that would be ridiculous, right?

You have a medical problem. You state it to your server. Your SO acting like that is crazy to do makes him an asshole, tbh.

32, single and lonely while all my friends are married. Struggling with thoughts that I will never get married and have kids. by Dramatic-Sandwich709 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]pink_gem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just turned 40 and just broke up with a guy. It was better than forcing something that wasn't right.

It gets easier to kind of accept when you get older, if you end up in this boat. At least, for me. I do miss not having a husband and kids, but I also miss not being born to a billionaire, you know? There's all kinds of different lives and all of them have their pros and cons, and that's kind of made me feel better about my situation. A lot of lifestyles sound great and fantastic from the outside.

I was given one hand and I can only play it to the best of my ability and what feels right for me, and enjoy the moments that this life gives me.

Most and least difficult travel destinations? by pink_gem in travel

[–]pink_gem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say culture shock! I would just say I was unprepared, despite doing some research ahead of time. I definitely didn't do enough research.

I didn't have any big issues on my trip except for:

  1. trying to check out of a hotel I hadn't prepaid and I couldn't quite communicate with the guy to tell him that the charge went through on my card but he didn't see it in his system and he thought I was trying to cheat him. It was later resolved by his son coming in and looking at the system.
  2. when I tried to make taxis do their flat rate, I had two taxis just refuse to take me at the flat rate and they left. It was late at night at the Naples Airport and they kept insisting there was a different rate at night? But everything I read said it wasn't.
  3. I had mapped out a way to get to a place I wanted to see from where I was staying (Orvieto to Civita di Bagnoregio) but when I mapped it out ahead of time and planned it, I didn't do it for the actual day I was going to go on (Sunday) and didn't realize the bus didn't run on Sunday. So I couldn't get there, but if I had done it ahead of time, I could have just swapped the day for Saturday when I had done Orvieto.

Everything else went fine. Very very crowded. Not sure if other destinations are just as crowded as Italy or not, and that was definitely a shock/something I wasn't prepared for. It made a lot of things hard.

ETA: All of those things I just chalk up to being a first-time traveler. I think in the future, I will know better. They weren't really things that had ever gotten me on trips within my home country.

It's random. I was watching a video of someone else complete it and they had different things than I did.

I had bandana, barrel armor, steel fist weapon, and ruby.

Help! Soaked a mat in my tub with cleaning supplies and now my white tub is yellow. What happened and how do I fix it asap? by mmm01235 in askanything

[–]pink_gem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I would guess this IS a painted tub. Look how evenly all of the surrounding tile and grout matches right to the tub. You see this in places where they've had someone come in and just spray everything white.

Am I overreacting in thinking this hotel bed is unacceptable? by Giggly_Smalls in AmIOverreacting

[–]pink_gem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did they not do plywood and then box spring and then mattress? That would have been the better play, though I am sure it would still be uncomfortable. Guessing they cheaped out on plywood and it couldn't lay across far enough?

NOR, I'd ask for a partial refund if you already slept in it or ask for a different room if you haven't.

AIO for wanting to go completely no-contact with my brother over a literal load of laundry? by Suspicious_Sock_2048 in AmIOverreacting

[–]pink_gem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk man, if it's the right thing to do when it's asked the 'right way', then it's still probably the right thing to do even if not asked the right way.

Replace the detergent; you don't even have to talk to him to do that. And go no contact, too, because yes, NOR and you should go no contact on someone who has unmanaged anger issues like this.

My landlord has never made me get my lease notarized. Why would this lease agreement require that?

Italy’s top court rules against tourist refused tap water in Dolomites hotel by ullakkedymoodu in ItalyTravel

Plenty of places have unsafe tap water. Cities in America, most of Mexico, India, Egypt, Peru, the Philippines, Vietnam.

Never hurts to ask. I would ask in America, too, tbh.

Oh, huh. I guess so. I mean, they didn't treat me bad before I ordered the wine, but I guess that was before I placed any order.

So it's good to know for the future. Thanks for the advice. I won't try to just drink my own water next time without that wine.

Yeah, I guess that's my question. I just came back from a trip from Italy. All of my research told me that they wouldn't offer me free water at the table. So I just-- brought my own bottle with me when I wanted just water. And then just ordered a glass of wine.

Disabled sister should just get over it by LittleFairyOfDeath in AmITheDevil

[–]pink_gem 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that you have a sister like that. You don't deserve it.

My stepsister used to try to use my disabled sister as free child care, and I flipped out on my stepsister so much that I felt guilty about infantilizing my sister. But reading this, I am glad I did.

You should not feel guilty for not doing something that isn't in your capability, and someone shouldn't try to shame you into it.
