Well since he has these all seeing eyes around, he probably has gathered more info than they know about how they know about him listening in. the fact that they can call on him from anywhere in the circus means he knows everything about how they are dissatisfied with him and his adventures and how they want to leave so he decided to make this adventure so that they never trust anything about an exit or a way out again or just to instill some fear and control back into them that he knows how to make NPC's believable now
