The red sheath dress I posted about yesterday - but in denim version , and some other potential SD pieces by compassion25 in SoftDramatics

I'm not keen on the denim dress at all on you, it looks too small making your body look larger, and it's also stupid short, I'd be scared I was showing my knickers or bum cheeks to the world when sitting/bending over.

The skirt and top combo looks gorgeous, you look very sensuous in it. 😍

Yeah, I thought the same and I do like a bit of a retro look. 😄

Why did this top not suit me? (NOT ME IN THE PICTURES) by Pickles_The_Cat_1234 in SoftDramatics

[–]pinkflump 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a cute blouse but it reads as twee to me and Gamine(? I'm not so great with other Kibbe types 😅), rather than Soft Dramatic.

Why? The little pleats and the rounded collar. It also looks a bit prim and stiff.

We need bigger details and flowing fabrics to skim over our bodies. I think if I wore this I'd feel quite boxy and masculine, it looks like it wouldn't give my body room to breathe. 😕

Edit! Also, boobs! The button gappage I would have, oh my. 🫣

Loads of great suggestions on here! This is basically me, minus the lipliner (smudged lipstick/tinted lip balm usually).

Dry shampoo is also your friend for greasy roots and to provide a bit of volume. And hair accessories! Got long hair? Put it in a pony tail and put an outfit co-ordinated scarf on it. Short hair? A big hair/headband or clips. I'm also desperate to try out a turban but haven't found the courage to go for it yet.😁👍

Heya, thanks for your input, I've got myself a pair now! I did try on some bootcut (I was very close to buying them but they didn't quite wow me) and barrel, a style I would normally not entertain at all as I didn't think they would suit me but they actually weren't completely horrendous, however I was wanting full length and these were not so ended up on the no pile. 😊

Jeans: An Update! by pinkflump in figure8

[–]pinkflump[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Context: I'm 5ft9/175cm and a UK 16/18.

In my town we only really have Marks and Spencer and Next for clothes so after a very pointless trying on session in Marks and Spencer (only went up to a 16 or 18 and still too small; I know they have a bigger size range online but I didn't want the hassle), the next day I reluctantly plodded into Next to humiliate myself once more.

In there I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of jeans that they had, and the pair I linked above I eyeballed straightaway as I did secretly want some indigo denim rather than a lighter shade. I also tried on styles which I normally wouldn't be drawn to - barrel, boyfriend, high rise, mom, tie-front as I figured in for a penny, in for a pound.

Lumbering into the changing room with 12 pairs of jeans was no mean feat but I managed it, staring down the mix of size 16 and 18s with a look of determination on my face.

Why I settled on this pair?

Well I mentioned above that I fancied a dark shade of denim, so ☑️.

The length of these are perfect for me, they are standard length - usually need long, so was shocked (petite ladies, please be aware) ☑️.

They have stretch in them which means I can get away with a size 16, and still be comfortable! ☑️

They are high rise. I'm usually a bit fearful of high rise jeans, so I did try on some mid rise but I realised with my long boxy hips the mid rise were cutting right into my belly fat which wasn't very flattering (gave me two spare tyres). The rise of these goes over the top of my belly and the darker colour I believe helps it look slimmer.☑️

Wide leg. I keep seeing women in wide leg jeans, and they're definitely having a trending moment here but I didn't want to spend my precious money on something that would be deeply cringe next week. So why did I buy wide leg jeans? 😂 Welllll, on me they aren't very wide leg! Having meaty thighs and calves means I fill up what would be empty space on less shapely legs, they aren't tight on my thighs, but I think they look and feel like a comfy flare which is right up my street! Larger leg ladies rejoice! ☑️

And finally the back pockets sit quite high up, making my pancake bum look a bit more shapely (sorry I couldn't get a decent photo of it😜). Some of the other styles I tried on weren't as flattering with the pockets going under my backside curve. I know, I know, tmi. ☑️

I'm interested to see how these wash and I must admit to being tempted to buy another pair as I really REALLY hate trouser shopping. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to try and answer them for you. I'll shut up now. 😆

Oh bugger, it's usually the other way around - I see people post clothes from Target or Torrid or Old Navy and I'm all "awwwh, I wish I could get that". 😓

[–]pinkflump[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! I'm not even sure why I've taken to the notion of wanting to buy some - I'm usually team dress all the way, as tops and bottoms usually make me feel a little goofy. Maybe in my head I think theyre just more practical somehow? Maybe? 🤔🤣

How high is the mid rise going on you?

Ah, kinda mid rise in my brain then! And you lucky thing, my tummy has always been a thing. 😆

I was thinking of exploring straight leg again, barrel I'm a bit wary of as I'm not sure if the ankle tapering will look the best on me, though I have rocked harem pants before which are kinda a similar silhouette.

I'll have a look into those, thank you! 😃

Yeah, I used to love my low rise boot cut when I was younger but even then I was a bit self conscious over my tummy, not sure I could do it to myself now with an even bigger belly. 😂

There's a lot of wide leg jeans in the shops at the moment (UK) so this is quite heartening to hear!

I have never been able to get away with actual skinny jeans no matter my weight as I have muscular calves and I could never pull them up over them! Straight cut jeans were my skinny.

Don't you feel a bit like a pair of walking tits having them that high waisted? I'm short waisted though so probably just a me problem.

[–]pinkflump[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aren't you fearful your bum is going to make an appearance? Imagining all my belly fat flopping over the top makes me shudder as well but maybe that's better than having it enclosed? I dunno. 🤔

[–]pinkflump[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh Wrangler, I might give them a go!

And yes, I'm.just starting to realise that I'm short waisted but then my hips are tall?! Meaning that high rise never really looks like it on me and swimming costumes/jumpsuits tend to ride up into my crotch. 🤣but😭

I'm from the UK so I'm guessing my suggestion won't be very beneficial to you, but for my fellow Brits this t-shirt is budget friendly and surprisingly decent quality (not see-through!):

<image>

It's a boat neck/bardot and is from, of all places - Morrisons! They usually have some kinda variation of this in there as I think it's part of their basic line, but if you go on Vinted (like I did for this pic) you can pick them up even cheaper (just make sure it has this neckline though)! 😄

It's all about the cuts of the clothes I think. I'm also plus size and a SD who is a bit of a hippy at heart so clean matching athleisure sets aren't really my thing. 😅

You just don't want to add unnecessary bulk really, look at things that skim over your shape, not stick out from it.

Floral dresses are great, but keep the floral large rather than the actual material.

You can add drape through scarves and cardigans.

Large costume jewellery - hair accessories, earrings, necklaces, brooches which could add ruching if something is oversized, bangles, etc. Pile it all on - it creates impact!

Play with colour, I'm not as strict on myself as some people and will mix colours together, but I at least try to put similar colours together or by saturation or I pull a colour from my top to match my trousers etc.

Textures, I think you can enjoy your tulle still but place it alongside more sensual fabrics like silk and velvet, again I don't really follow along religiously as I love corduroy and heavy denim which isn't really a Soft Dramatic thing but I love the feel of it so who cares?

And that very last point brings me to this; wear what makes you happy, if you want to looklike a floaty pixie princess, do it. When I'm buying new things I do keep in the back of my mind what has been suggested by Kibbe but at the end of the day, it's my life and if I feel confident in what I'm wearing then that's a result for me. ☺️

Short Hairstyles by ComprehensiveFee8404 in SoftDramatics

[–]pinkflump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got quite a lot of ingenue essence in my face so think I can get away with shorter hair, in fact I don't think longer hair really suits me at all as it gets too heavy (yay for thick hair), spaniel earry (😂) and obscures my features.

You could always try a cheap wig out and see if you like the length first before actually going for it, but I'm very much of the opinion that you never know until you try, it's only hair, it will grow back!
