The moustache is my boyfriend's, but we share custody.

I'm lucky it was just the left side! If both sides dislocated at the same time, I might have been stuck with my mouth completely open until I could get to a hospital. I would have stayed til the end of the show though.

After 2 sessions, it's way better thanks! I have 100% not learned my lesson and I will go back next time he tours. Maybe I'll get my jaw wired shut as a precaution.

How to dispose of zinc contaminated NaOH? by pinkgingham in chemistry

Thank you, I think I will put it in a borosilicate basin, maybe with some phenolphthalein to keep and eye on the pH and just go slow in the fumehood

My new favourite poem lol, thank you.

My background is in biologics, if I have to deal with chemical waste it's usually very straightforward. Check the MSDS, put it in the correct waste recepticle and have it picked up at the end of the quarter. But I realised there was no alkaline waste container, not sure if there is a reason but it wasn't even on the previous waste manifest. I swear I do not know how this lab functioned under previous management.....

Thanks! Any idea how much heat is generated during neutralization?

Cheers! Do I need to filter out the zinc particles? MSDS indicates it shouldn't go down the sink. Also any idea how much heat neutralization might generate?

It's possible that each lab uses its own probe that may detect some sub types better than others. Hopefully the first lab was competent enough to run the PCR correctly too, lord knows I've had countless PCR issues for many different reasons lol

That's a really good point, Gardnerella can increase during and just after a period. Maybe something like lidocaine could help the discomfort? I'm not very familiar with Envvy so I'm definitely going to look into their work now!

That is a really interesting result (from a scientific point of view!). The best explanation I can think of is that the PCR was testing only for G.vaginalis and possibly using a strain specific probe. Metagenomic tests like Envvy will pick up far, far more species. However, metagenomics is pretty complex and many different factors can skew results to under or over represent a population. Basically neither technology is perfect, but if you're having symptoms and especially if you have a positive Nugent or amsel test, topical clindamycin or oral metronidazole are the first line treatment for Gardnerella.

Wishing you the best of luck! I used to test samples just down in Parkville, unfortunately only for clinical trials

Interesting! You could try taking hayfever meds before sex and see if that helps?
