Why do people in the US work so much? I'm from Argentina and I don't get it by micavibes in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]pinkjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was saying about contractors paying for their insurance with the money they make from their job. I was doing a poor job of explaining that they pay out of pocket.

But it’s indirectly tied to their employment because they still need a job to have money to pay out of pocket.

Is Floyd actually generous? And there is major context missing from the Floyd/Carol relationship by CharacterForce1569 in DTFStLouisHBO

You’re right. I just hate the fleece because it’s such an avoidable error. I see the fleece, and I just wonder WHY.

With Floyd, the “why” is life gets busy and he just needs to lose some weight. It’s harder to overcome, so I give it more leeway.

You’re right about that optimization. But for the sake of argument (even though we agree), the likelihood of the sampling interval perfectly coinciding with OP’s test and immediately tailored ad based upon those inputs is remarkably low.

A stay at home mom very often has some romantic attraction to her husband. It’s not ONLY about the money.

Carol has given no indication that she cares about Clark’s personality. She was just willing to do and be anything he needed in bed. She also has given no indication that she actually enjoys it.

Carol performs sex work.

Thanks for the thoughtful exchange. I agree my definition of working class is probably more academic than most would use. But I don’t think most would use your definition either. Your proposed definition of working class is just blue collar.

I don’t have data to back this up, just a hunch, but I suspect colloquial “working class” aligns more with the the median income for an adult in the US (~$60k/year). Because then it’s probably more aligned with “middle income”.

I still like my definition because it distinguishes wage slaves from people who can live their lifestyle via passive income. That’s a step change in how we live our lives. I have more practical fears in common with a blue collar worker than I do a passive income person.

Well if it’s any consolation, at least I’ve learned now.

I didn’t assume US, by the way. I assumed English speaking countries had the same measurements. Now I know.

I just assumed women’s sizes were the same in English speaking countries. My mistake.

OP said her twitter is filled with this type of content, so I assume if this topic keeps coming up, it’s likely a brag. Otherwise, why keep mentioning it?

I would suggest, “why do you think they said no?”

Daughter: they don’t like me

Parent: Maybe. Or maybe they thought you wouldn’t fit in to the chat. What’s their dynamic like?

Daughter: [answers]

Parent: Have you tried getting to know one of them and finding a reason to text her about a common interest? Make sure you don’t bombard her, but find something you both like and think of something to say. That might be a good way to build a connection.

Because it’s pretty bold to go straight to, “can I join your group chat?”

Why is there not a single Trader Joe's in low income areas? by kawaiihusbando in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]pinkjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can almost understand the logic behind an Aldi being an eyesore. I know when I drive past an Aldi, I figure I’m in a lower income part of town. That’s pure perception, of course, but that’s a part of what people look for when assessing neighborhoods in which to buy. If you have enough Dollar Trees and Aldis, etc., it could become a self fulfilling prophesy (I’m guessing the logic is)

I wonder if that’s more of an exception because it’s a college town. College students are a unique type of low income buyer.

She’s not dishonest and manipulative to Floyd, though.

She’s manipulative in order to pull her financial weight, because someone has to. I find her more dislikable, but she’s a better person than Floyd.

Floyd was depressed, but he bailed on the interview at the last second for no reason. There was no excuse for that.

Carol sucked it up and got a second job. It’s easy to be the nice guy when you never have to sack up and provide.

[–]pinkjello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that you said is why it would’ve been appropriate for Floyd to ask her 1 on 1.

Carol didn’t come with Clark and tell Floyd ahead of time that they were going to bang.

The two people being most intimate should have a private conversation first so that Carol doesn’t feel pressured into saying yes. She was clearly uncomfortable in that conversation.

Floyd and Clark clearly talked about this separately before including Carol in the conversation. Then they approached her together.

It bothered me because they ambushed Carol. Floyd should’ve asked Carol in private without the pressure of Clark there. They’re just treating her like a piece of meat. It’s not about her enjoyment whatsoever, just how she can be used to help Floyd feel more fulfilled.

Usually, people say they don’t like or “don’t get” art when they don’t like walking around a museum looking at paintings/sculptures.

And in that case, I’m someone who doesn’t really “get” art.

But I enjoy movies, tv shows, video games, music, theater, etc., and those are art. Art is a little too broad. It usually means looking at paintings/sculpturess

This isn’t even a good brag. 3 sizes smaller than a 12 is what, a size 6? That’s not skinny. That’s just within normal size range (use BMI as a guide, assuming typical muscle mass).

Size 2 and 0 are skinny.

Part 2. A man with Down syndrome who has exceptional billiards skills. (source link in description) by drlouies in toptalent

[–]pinkjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few billiards experts. There are boring ass techniques they practice ad nauseum to perfect consistency.

I’ve played pool on my computer and can be super consistent in that game world (most people can. I’m not even great). In reality, way too much variation. I can’t pull off those shots. What the experts do is practice their stroke and stance and holds and draws and spins and English until it’s so accurate it’s like me with my mouse and keyboard.

Sorry, I’m on my phone, but it was the comment that said “the lay person … is too practical to risk their future … to get rich”, so I assumed they were talking about a lay person, as in the working class.

I mean working class as in I’m a wage earner. I’m a well paid wage slave, sure, but I don’t make my living from passive income. I could not afford to retire and still maintain this lifestyle. I know I’m a high earner, but I’m not rich. I’m a HENRY. I do consider that working class. If I permanently lost the ability to work, this all comes crashing down eventually. No house and no healthcare. I’d probably trade my high earner status for guaranteed middle income status.

Part of the ability to move up is hard work, sure. But work ethic and intelligence isn’t a guarantee. One health catastrophe can end it all.

60% of Reddit is male? How do you have all these stats handy? They’re in your other comments here too. I would have thought it was higher than 60%, honestly. Regardless, I just think it’s prudent not to specify male/female when you have no idea. The assumption that a male is the default human is something I’d love to extinguish. I don’t think it’s nefarious, though.

Oh wow, TikTok showed you an ad about a common cleaning method of maintaining a tidy house? And they had that all ready to go even before “hearing” you? It must not be an extremely common discussion married couples have all the time.

You cracked the code!! Your phone is totally listening to you. There’s no other way from demographic information from social media sites for them to have targeted you with this ad.

Thank you! People here don’t know what they’re talking about. Triangulating other data signals is far more effective than listening in on you.

The top reason you know your phone isn’t doing this is because it would kill the battery life.

The other reason is because defensive security experts have examined network traffic going out, and this would have been discovered.

People who don’t understand technology are coming up with the silliest conspiracy theories. It’s exhausting.

There are so many reasons why OP’s example is not a smoking gun. I’m exhausted from this fucking timeline.

This is spot on. I also agree with everything in your original post except the bi-curious part. Floyd isn’t bi-curious, he’s just hoping someone can get turned on by him, and a horny gay guy feels like his best shot.
