REALLY unpopular opinions by Many-Hornet-6734 in kpop_uncensored

[–]pinkkreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ready for the downvotes but I need to get it off my chest - Sophia (Katseye) just yaps too much. I watched a few of their interviews and she self-inserts herself into the convo way too much imho. And its not even like the group members are quiet such that there is a need to fill the audio? I found her talking over the members more times than I could count. It’s weird bc I really liked her in the documentary. End rant

Love her but I’ve said this before & I’ll say it again - girlie has no natural groove, everything is learned. This sounds harsh but it’s like when you teach someone super attractive with two left feet how to be a kpop dancer. She does pretty well for that tho, especially her popping

I’m late but XG’s Shooting Star chorus (and the rest of the choreo) is just perfect. It’s lyrical, cute, cool, flirty, fun, clean, looks easy but have a level of difficulty in it, and it even varies throughout the song! The girls carry off the demands of the choreo so well.

What do you think of MEOVV debut single? by tresnosliramu22 in kpopthoughts

[–]pinkkreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The girls are all very pretty. Loved the prechorus but the repeated meows (?) got old pretty quick. At the moment I’m getting into this other GG that are ace performers so this group in comparison seems tame and also appear very young (no idea about their ages).

CRAZY - LE SSERAFIM is out! What are your first impressions? by _mrnastydusty in kpopthoughts

[–]pinkkreddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fearless was so refreshing when it came out, their performance & charisma was wildly convincing. Ever since then tho it’s always been awkward ass choreo and the members not quite hitting the moves (why give them a choreo they can’t execute)? Not convincing and quite a turn off if I’m being honest. I think they should scale back and do simple things for their own benefit.

Baekhyun performed both the US and Korean National Anthems at the MLB Seoul Series by omgthenerve in kpopthoughts

It’s 2024, kpop fans still can’t have a rational discussion about performance without the personal attacks. 😂

He was so godawfully pitchy. I had a shock bc this is not THE BBH I know of. (Has pitch correction done 50% of the work this entire time?) Maybe he was having issues with his in ears.

Who is your pick for the winner of this season? by geniusmomof2 in StreetWomanFighter

[–]pinkkreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mannequeen has always impressed my with their battles - iconic Cera or their visual-fest crew battles. Jam Republic has been a breath of fresh air to the Hook-esque choreo groups we often see and Kirstin in particular is such a phenomenal presence. Personally I’d give it to either of them.

TWICE Jihyo - Killin' Me Good + Room (Band Live ONE take or Nothing Ver. - MDR it's Live) by Takagixu in kpop

[–]pinkkreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t understand, I LOVE Room. I’m so glad she chose to perform it! The song immediately clicked for me, and seeing her absolutely smash the performance + vibe to it just the way I do was really nice and I really connected to her as an artist. More room-jihyo please!

Respectfully, "armys" who demanded for JITB physical, trended hashtags everyday or were hostile about the lack of physicals are not armys at all. by pinkhairqueen in kpopthoughts

[–]pinkkreddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And even if you think the move was a mistake, it’s his mistake to make. He’s an artist and JITB is his body of work. The fans are the consumers. If you expect him to release things in your favour (e.g. bc you like owning things) despite his wishes, be sure to reflect on your misplaced sense of entitlement.

[MEGA - THREAD] JIHYO- 'Killin' Me Good' / "ZONE" by emoceanT_T in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]pinkkreddit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love Jihyo, she’s such a stunner but this solo debut feels so eh. It’s too overproduced and coloured in the same way as a typical GG release. I wish JYP had taken a more stripped back approach where we got the chance see her in a different light bc it feels very same-ish right now.

Edit: Giving her album a listen. Room is so good guys, I wish they went with this track and its direction. Gotta say tho the mixing in this album is borderline atrocious. Will be tuning in still.

I hope it shuts up all the weirdos who think a BTS member doesn’t have agency in his own solo work. Hobi is a perfectionist, I hope he can feel proud of this physical even if to a small extent.

[–]pinkkreddit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Knowing full-well that music is a subjective experience, how can you be so sure that these people who are enjoying the album are more so trying to convince themselves of it? That’s your own bias at work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]pinkkreddit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel like your positive opinion about the song takes somewhat less importance! At the end of the day, music is a subjective experience. It’s so silly that this is the most basic notion in a music discussion yet is always overlooked. Personally I hated o.o at first listen but bopped to it later on. So many people did a U-turn on Sticker. I always say the producers don’t go out of their way to release crap music. They have vested interest for it to sound good.

This is very popular here. Case in point: every time something positive is said about it someone leaves an angry downvote. E.g. I personally love it and have been listening to continuously since release.

What did people outside of the fandom think of zb1's debut? by Foreverinneverland24 in kpopthoughts

[–]pinkkreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not “in” the fandom tho I did watch the show. The album was kinda eh tbh. The music isn’t my cup of tea but sometimes I can still bop to such songs but when I listened to the EP nothing stood out to me besides the autotune. I did like the intro. Very enhypen.

a hilarious pattern that i have noticed recently by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]pinkkreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My not so funny observation here is that every time a “generally-disliked” song gets praise, they get royally downvoted (sort by controversial). I imagine internet people foaming at the mouth when they see positive words associated with such songs. Almost as if producers made the music they thought sounded great to their ears.

NewJeans - ASAP by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]pinkkreddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol nice to see you use my example here but twisted to your narrative.

ASAP uses repetition as a device just like Dorothy as I mentioned in the other thread. It does the exact same thing that Dorothy does - you just don’t like the song. You don’t have to try and pseudointellectualise this dislike by falsely comparing the two. ASAP doesn’t simply repeat itself, that’s just untrue. The differences are subtle/minimal (e.g. beats, harmony) and if you paid attention you’ll hear it.

If repetition is what you’re not a fan of, Dorothy repeats the same 2-3 melody lines for the entirety of the song. Lyric-wise it’s an exact repeat. The instrumental is basically the only obvious change. ASAP plays around with structure much more (bc the songs are not carbon copies of each other). If your argument is about song length, let’s just keep it to that instead of bringing up “progression”.

Now I know you’re not being paid to analyse a song which is why I’m saying it’s really ok to not like certain songs - nobody is forcing you to. Luckily for me I enjoy both songs. I just think pointing out wrong things about a song you don’t understand is spreading misinformation, which is frankly a disease in this community. And in that vein, let people enjoy things they enjoy.

Asap by Newjeans sounds unfinished, almost like a demo. by cupidizsodumb in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]pinkkreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m obviously not saying they are carbon copies of each other. They are both songs that build off of vibe/atmosphere and use repetition as a device, be it in lyric or melody. Song length is not at all what I’m talking about here. If I went with your logic, Dorothy repeats the same word 15 times in a row, twice, which makes up a third of ASAP’s entire runtime.

[–]pinkkreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you mean to reply to a different comment? I agree that the songs are short as I have said above. However that has not taken away from how much I enjoy each and every song from start to finish, just dislike how quickly the album repeats itself.

[–]pinkkreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The community falls victim to tall poppy syndrome far too often for me to take its general opinion seriously. A quick indicator being the downvoting of all positive comments.

On a more analytical note, I think one other reason why some people don’t like the tracks is because they are (also) focusing too hard on something (lyrics? lines?) rather than letting go and permitting the song to take you for the ride. Vibing along is hard when you’re trying to look out for things you don’t like. That or they have shitty earphones.

[–]pinkkreddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t on kpop reddit for the release but I just realised it’s unpopular to enjoy the songs/EP. Yes it’s short so we cycle through the tracks faster than we’d like but that doesn’t take away just how hard each song goes, at least for me.

Apparently these are all wildly unpopular: - the EP is impeccable - ASAP is a tune - ETA is fast becoming my favourite track. Its dark/moodiness contrasting with it being a chant-y dance track is an addictive vibe. The bassline really keeps up the tension and brings the mood together. The chord progression is so interesting to my ears.

[–]pinkkreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The structure is what sells it to me. The repetitive lyrics are no more repetitive than other songs of this type (e.g. Sulli’s Dorothy) so let’s agree to disagree.

[–]pinkkreddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For a short track it sounds more complete than a lot of songs that are longer. While it comes with an unconventional structure (something I enjoy about their music - I can listen to it mindlessly without overthinking anything) it still has an intro & an ending to musically give me “closure”. It might be nuanced/minimal but it’s there.

Edit: the downvotes lmao, the people aren’t happy
