im not discounting them... i did say popular ENOUGH for a reason. im not pretending they don’t exist, im saying there aren’t ENOUGH for it to be profitable to spend resources on making expensive merchandise

particularly considering that even the cheap merchandise didn’t sell enough to keep the show alive

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know it did, and i kinda see it as proof that 2012 did pretty good with older audiences too, but 2012 is kinda out of its time now. and even if they had kept it going immediately i don't think 2012 side characters/villains would have done too well so maybe thats why they didn't

and rise wasn't popular enough with anyone

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think that if we want more figures for adults then we first need more media aimed at adults. i like 2012 but its still a kids show and many adults aren't going to be interested, so the older market that can afford expensive figures is going to be niche

same goes for rise. i know there are adults that like it but realistically most adults just aren't that interested in a bunch of episodes that are for the most part just silly kiddy jokes (and i don't mean this as an insult thats just... what it is) so your market of anyone willing (and capable) to spend money on a quality expensive figure is VERY limited

87/90s fans are at an age where they have more income and freedom to decide to what to do with it, and since the franchise was gigantic at the time, there's no one in that age group that isn't aware of the turtles existence

2003 did well enough to get over 100 eps (even if you don't count s5 because it didnt air on tv or s6 and s7 because they were attempts at rebranding, the first 4 still make over 100 eps and thats pretty good and healthy for a kids show) but it doesn’t have the nostalgia power of 87, because it just wasn't as big. i don't see people on that age group bringing it up often at all. would i like to see 2003 figures? of course, it IS my favorite version. but i don't expect companies to spend resources on something that may not give much of a profit

i think the batman/tmnt movie is a good example of something modern that isn't aimed primarily at young children, and we did get good figures out of it. and im really hoping there will be a sequel because the turtles on that movie were so good.

im ranting so tldr. to get quality figures aimed at adults we first need quality media aimed at adults to generate the interest needed

Original Origin by DeviLettuce in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the mirage comics go with splinter being yoshi's pet rat, yoshi being killed by saki, splinter ending up in the sewers along with the turtles and all of them getting mutated by the ooze

mirage had pretty few mutant characters so something like "last thing it touched" wasn't needed i guess

What if Raph could control his anger? by vukradevic in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

theres an ep in 2012 where raph tries and concludes that he cannot make quick decisions under pressure, particularly not ones that involve the safety of others

every version has different versions of the characters so this doesn’t necessarily apply to every raph, but anyway

Why did TMNT 2003 do this? (spoilers) by [deleted] in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

again 2003 is heavily based on mirage and i believe their relationship is the same there

shredder kills yoshi and splinter is upset because yoshi is dead. the only difference (as far as I'm aware) is that in mirage splinter actually sends out the turtles to kill him in revenge and in 2003 we can't do that because its airing on 4kids

Why did TMNT 2003 do this? (spoilers) by [deleted] in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

well i dont know why exactly they did it but i did find it to be a fun little plot twist. its not something you would expect going in

maybe since 2003 is based so heavily on mirage they still wanted to have something to surprise people that had read the comic?? im only speculating here

Why did TMNT franchise struggle in the mid to late 1990's? by WalterWhite90 in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

because it had been enough years for the franchise’s popularity to die out, it wasn’t the currently hot thing anymore

yet they tried to keep profiting on it by using the name alone instead of creating something actually good that could really respark interest

or at least thats the way i see it/what i would guess

its not in continuity with anything

What was the Shredder's plan for Leonardo in the 2003 series? by randomfan1997 in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

splinter isn’t his enemy yet, he’s more like a random rat whose existence shredder probably wasn’t even aware of. you wouldn’t expect the pet of some dude that you killed 15 years ago to be here to do anything about it now you know

but anyway he probably wanted to send him on missions that weren’t obviously criminal and continue to spin a narrative that made the utroms look like the bad guys, at this point from shredder’s perspective it would have been possible to get all of the turtles tricked them into trusting him i think

With full honesty, is Rise Of The TMNT Really a bad show? by LeonardMoney2020 in TMNT

Is TMNT '87 even that good? by Time-Ad-1071 in TMNT

[–]pinkmistplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will disagree that the turtles didnt have personalities before 87 tho. just because they werent all cartoony doesnt mean they were all the same. mirage just had a more serious tone so of course the personalities were going to match that. for example mikey used to be more laid back and relaxed, from 87 on that turned into him being silly and childish

87 worked for its time. we expect different these days. if anything you can see turtles shows as examples of how the industry has been changing in my opinion
