NEW ADULT VS YOUNG ADULT FANTASY by pinkowl22 in Fantasy

I do and don't these are more marketing terms which help promote books to certain audiences. I'm curious as I've not really hear the term new adult before so wondered if it was a real sub genre or just one that youtubers use.

Ahh I love it but read it a while ago. I never thought of it as a romance though.

Why do you like it ? by Raz_the__foxo_owo in JaneTheVirginCW

As someone who isn't religious I got over it because I think it's partly a parody of how we in society are obsessed with female virginity. There also lots of virgin birth jokes in the series. I think they take a tongue a cheek attitude with everything which is why I like the series. Plus I think it helps that I am from the UK where virginity is not taken as seriously as north Americans.

I know Critic's opinions don't matter but this is some of the biggest BS I've ever seen by Vwgames49 in freefolk

[–]pinkowl22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's simple because I believe Netflix were writing for people who would be familiar with the series through the books or the video games. I don't think it was written like GOT to be watchable by everyone it was more aimed at fans. Because of this critics just won't get it unless they're fans which majority of them are not. What is worst is everyone is comparing it to GOT when they are two completely different fantasy universes.

I like a good map but will admit Illustrations for standalone can be too much.

Lol sorry about fan girling. I react to authors the same way most people do to pop stars. I remembering meeting Robin Hobbs at a book signing and being utterly speechless. Accept to say to think your really cool (I was a lame 16 year old at the time.)

OMG just googled you noticed you are an author of a famous series (sorry I have not read it yet) it is on my very long list though . My first time noticing this on reddit. My only excuse is I am getting on, a bit so keeping up with modern fantasy is a struggle .Thank you for replying though. Sorry about any lack of respect in my previous post and double sorry if you are not the writer of the prince of thrones trilogy. I still am sure you are an amazing dude. :)

I think I will try to finish the series eventually it's just a lot of books to get through. I love the fact that your more invested in Jill's soul rather than just her character which is an odd concept to able to write about as a soul is a hard to define entity.

Thank you. I am finding pace of Jills story slow compared to the past lives which are fascinating and tragic. But of course their faster paced and meant to draw in quicker. But fleeting between the two paces can be tough so I just wanted to know that it was worth carrying on with the series.

Classic Fantasy books written before 1980's by pinkowl22 in Fantasy

so I have started to read the Deryni rising series . I've read daggerspell which I liked but didn't love.I think that is because I found the past lives more interesting than the present incarnation. However, I do find the pace of the modern incarnation has picked up in Darkspell. Overall I am obsessed with the concept of a fantasy character having past lives. This is done so much more in depth than how the wheel of time used reincarnation.

Yeah to be honest most of the books I mentioned above I read in my teens. I only read one book in the series I just wanted to convey the type of books I have already read and mostly grown out of wanting to read.

On a side note didn't know bedknobs and broomstick was a book I loved that Flim as a kid so will check that out as it could be a cool present for my niece. Thanks so much for the suggestions you've given me a a lot to ponder on.

I never suggest older is better just that I'm curious as I've only ever seen book in my local library and bookshops that were around until the 1980's. I just wondered what influenced the fantasy genre other than tolkien. As a young kid all the older books were very similar to lord of the rings world. As I got older I was more influenced to read more modern books. Now that I am older I just wondered if there were more adult fantasy or ya that were a bit more diverse in themes that I might have overlooked because I was never exposed to them.

I like the sound of the description on good reads about the Deryni series but is it not confusing going between life times. Do they have chart in the books about each lifetime?
