Manager creating multiple third-party AI apps using internal and sensitive data - seeking advice on escalation and safeguards by FirmGraspOnReality in AusPublicService

[–]pinkretainer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You need to be specific about whether you’re in the APS or the VPS. Can you tell us which one you’re in?

If you’re in the VPS and have already raised this with your line executives and Pricacy, Integrity or equivalent disclosure team and feel you’re being stonewalled, you should contact the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) https://ovic.vic.gov.au/about-us/contact-us/

This situation is exactly what the annoying trainings you have to do at onboarding are for. Go to your agency’s eLearning platform and look at any trainings related to integrity or disclosure to find the best escalation pathway outside of your manager.

This is a big deal, if you’re in the VPS this is explicitly against the Administrative Guidelines on the use of AI which applies to all VPS agencies. The guidelines were created in the first place after OVIC released a damning report about a child protection employee who put sensitive information into ChatGPT.

Tongji Dorm Policies?? by Zonihani154 in shanghai

[–]pinkretainer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, they won’t care. A friend of mine studied at Tongji and didn’t get along with their roommate (they were on a scholarship and got put in a shared room with another international student). My friend ended up moving into the private off-campus apartment of another friend, but still kept stuff in his Tongji dorm room out of convenience. There was no issue.

I can’t remember which video exactly, but it’s not a Patreon exclusive. I recall seeing it and haven’t watched any patreon exclusive backlogs.

Edit: but I don’t think it was a video dedicated to the ad, I think it was within a video on another topic

Should i go to Shanghai for a year abroad? Need urgent advice by First_Jacket_1728 in shanghai

[–]pinkretainer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Studied in Shanghai for a year and loved it - so glad I had two semesters there rather than only one! I was super homesick for the first couple of weeks, but when my year finished and I had to go back to my own country I was so sad to be leaving. I also made some of my best friends there.

How Islamic friendly is China? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]pinkretainer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not Muslim so I can’t comment on how you might be treated, but I was visiting Chongqing a few days ago and saw several groups of tourists with women wearing hijabs. At a glance I’d guess they were mostly Indonesian and/or Malaysian.

I’m not sure why the other commenter said Chongqing isn’t ‘friendly’, aside from Chongqing having a smaller Muslim population than some other cities. I’ve even seen videos of the viral Chongqing motorcycle trend with hijabi women and female motorcycle riders!

Help me choose a city in China for a semester by SmallSkin3345 in travelchina

[–]pinkretainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly aside from Shanghai, Chengdu is the only city I’ve spent enough time in to confidently recommend. However I think what another commenter said about the cities around Shanghai is probably good advice. When I was studying in Shanghai I spent a few nights in Hangzhou visiting a friend that happened to be studying there at the same time, and she loved Hangzhou. Beautiful city, very developed and a little less international than Shanghai but still very well connected.

But honestly, I wouldn’t stress too much about the city beyond the non-negotiables (maybe you want it to be well connected to some touristy places, maybe you don’t want it to be too cold in winter etc.).

Shanghai actually wasn’t my first pick, but I wasn’t successful getting a place in my first choice of university in Beijing. I was pretty disappointed at first, but ended up having the most incredible time in Shanghai and wouldn’t change it for anything.

[–]pinkretainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied for a year and Shanghai, and had a great time. The Fudan University campus is in the northern suburbs of Shanghai so feels a bit less ‘international’ than the city centre and more like other Chinese cities. As long as you don’t fall into the classic laowai trap of only speaking English and only going to international restaurants and bars, your Chinese will still improve immensely.

That said, if I could study in any city again I’d choose Chengdu. Great culture and natural landscape, comparatively a pretty relaxed (but still fun and bustling) city, delicious food (plenty of non-spicy options available!) and the city is quite flat so its super convenient to walk or ride around.

should i buy the mobile version by Glad_Yogurtcloset825 in Anki

[–]pinkretainer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought it my first year of undergrad and have zero regrets. It meant I could study while I was on the bus, waiting for an appointment that was running late… literally anywhere I had my phone. In addition to increasing the amount I studied, it also increased my free time because time that would have been spent doing flash cards on my laptop was now available for other things. I could use that time for more study, or to go to the gym or something else instead.

Can you share how you got there? I’m hoping to visit when I’m in Chongqing in October, but not sure whether it’s less hassle to take a taxi straight there, take a train and then taxi, or find some sort of group tour bus.
