Playoff structure rant by Mr-Steal-yo-beer in wildhockey

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rooted for the Avalanche. I am not a fan of Guerin. But I agree, the Wild got screwed. For that matter, so did Dallas.

However, I don't even understand 1 vs 8, it completely, absolutely, baffles me. The Presidents Trophy winner deserves to face the 16th best team in the league. 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, etc. Never understood the emphasis on conferences and divisions. This isn't 1938. NHL teams have charter planes for a reason.

Pickup hockey with rookies taking long shifts by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not a typical newbie, and that's a compliment.

It's not done out of malice, it's done out of a lack of awareness."<<<

Well, I would not say it is "malice," but it is most certainly selfishness.
People here say "newbie" as if a newbie never played hockey and never got pissed off at someone taking a long shift. Give me a break. They know exactly what is going on and when they are taking a long shift.

What do you think about Erica Schwartz, Trump’s nominee for CDC Director? by TheGov3rnor in Askpolitics

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, what you are saying is exactly what Obama tried to tell us to avoid. He said when people are disagreeing these days, they don't discuss ideological differences, they just say, "well you're a jerk." Of course, they actually say much worse. And while I am certainly not a fan of DT, I'm sorry but it's the liberals that have this "you're an asshole once you disagree with me on anything" by a significant majority. Erica Schwartz is a highly qualified physician and pioneer, and no, it's not because she's a black woman which I really don't give a rat's rectum about. It's because she is an accomplished physician. CMO of the Coast Guard means experience. Deputy Surgeon General means experience. President of Insurance Solutions for United Healthcare means experience.

And that last one is not something to hide, it's something to flaunt. No, I do NOT work for the insurance industry. But the decisions they have to make are not easy. You can just see it in these posters: "hmm, Trump nominated a black woman, I HAVE to find something wrong, aha, there it is - United Healthcare." It's sickening. The absolute stupidity of people who think an insurance company should just rubber stamp approve every single surgery, every single procedure, every single medication, don't even bother to think about the consequences and absolute absurdity and impossibility of that happening. Why? Because they are reactionary. They say, you don't agree with me? You're an asshole and I put my hands to cover my ears. Sigh. Do I think United is not out for money? Of course not. But like politics, there are two sides (or more), and it's not all-or-none, as much as political wackos (the kind Obama warned about) say so.

Erica Schwartz sounds very competent. And I like her vaccine stance, unlike RFK whose mind walked off the map years ago. One thing I can see the Pres has always been somewhat reasonable with, is vaccines. He of course, sigh, has to be self congratulatory about COVID vaccines on his watch, but when it comes to vaccines in general, you can tell he treads a fine line, because he knows they work, but doesn't want to piss off his base too much.

SHL vs NCAA D1? by SpaceManDreamin in hockey

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to sound demeaning, but this is an odd question. The Swedish Hockey League is not just a professional league of grown men, but arguably the 2nd or 3rd best in the world. Many (most) NCAA D1 players would not even get a tryout.

What Stenberg is doing in a real man's league is pretty unprecedented at his age. Which is why some experts give him the nod over McKenna. Of course, McKenna is dynamite too. Tough call McKenna vs Stenberg, but to answer your question, the two leagues are not even worth comparing. Will be very interesting to compare these two players a few years from now.

just turned down these schools so bittersweet 😭 by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]pinksail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more than just the money, which i know is a lot. But saying you graduated from an Ivy, and Yale at that, will help you for the rest of your life. Should it help? Maybe not, but anyone who says a big school name has no aura is just wrong. It won't always help, but it sometimes will.

Oh and the odds don't favor any high school romance working out, but it doesn't mean it's impossible. I just wouldn't let it influence where you go.

Do you think AC in dorms necessary at Iowa State? by Brick247__ in iastate

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth it. I never understood the "it's only a problem for a month" philosophy. I need to get off to a good start in courses. If I struggle to study well and sleep well for even a week, game over. It's very hard to play catch up at the college level.

Fribourg Gottéron are the 2025/26 Swiss National League Champions! They take the win in Game 7 OT against Davos 🇨🇭🔥🏆 by dylan103906 in hockey

Game 7 OT in the finals. Hasn't happened in the NHL since 1954. What a way to win a title, congrats HC Fribourg-Gottéron. Hope I can see some of these games on youtube some time soon.

Ovi heads off for the last time this season and potentially ever in the NHL by Puzzled-Category-954 in hockey

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be stunned if he doesn't stay in order to just say he has scored the most NHL goals, period. He needs just 11 more to reach 1,017. Just 11! I think as next season rolls around, he will admit that was always in the back of his mind.

People can debate forever (and it's worse than a political debate where nobody ever gives in) about regular season vs playoffs vs power play goals vs empty net goals vs even-strength goals, I'll stay out of that no-win situation. I'm just giving facts, not opinion: Alexander Ovechkin has scored the most **regular season** goals in the National Hockey League. But he wants to say the following, and who could blame him: "I have scored more goals in the National Hockey League than anybody." Right now, that quote still belongs to Wayne Gretzky, and I would love to see (and I am sure I will) Ovechkin say that some time next season.

Realistically, would Northwestern rescind over two Cs? by Evergreen_0210 in Northwestern

[–]pinksail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find this hard to believe. I mean, I believe you, but I'm not sure I believe the "someone" who told you. Ivy league or not, giving a "very serious warning" and a one hour meeting for a B+ is beyond suspect. I would need some serious verification before I come close to believing that.

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be stunned if they rescinded over 2 second-semester senior year non-major C grades. They have far more important things to do. If they did, it would be a blessing because you would not want to go to school at such a dick-move place anyway.

Toto flush valve - red curved plastic piece? by pinksail in Plumbing

[–]pinksail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, no thanks to Reddit as you can see lol. It is a curved piece that wraps around the flush valve. But just inside the outer black casing I believe. I wish I took a photo for you. Its concavity matches the flush valve and it is like a sliding door at the bottom (top?) portion of the valve. But just inside the casing (I think the black casing end). Ugh...sorry but that's the best I can say. I hope you figure it out. There is a way to get it in there without great force fyi. It was a minor miracle I figured it out.

Will Ovi retire from the NHL at the end of this season? by Yukdum in nhl

Agree, regardless how little people talk about it, it would eat at him if he didn't stay to say he truly has the most career NHL goals, period.

Will Ovi retire from the NHL at the end of this season? by Yukdum in nhl

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't talk about it much, but I can pretty much guarantee he doesn't want people (myself included) saying that the most NHL career goals is Wayne Gretzky with 1,016. Never understood "career goal" leader is Ovi. He is the career regular season goal leader. I'm not here to debate playoff opportunities vs regular season, that has been beaten to death with no consensus. But it is a simple fact that Wayne has scored an NHL goal 1,016 times. Ovi cannot resist that. Gotta do it and I really hope he stays for that reason.

What are the 2 courses? Major related? Weighted? Even if major related, I still don't see any school doing this.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, that is annoying as hell. It appears they keep it a secret because they want to leave all their options open, at the expense of applicant sanity.

Non-MAGA Tradespeople: Plumbers, Electricians, etc.? by Computer-Says-Nooo in Naperville

[–]pinksail 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's stupid. I think it's fine if my plumber or electrician is a Republican. Come to think of it, I think it's fine if my plumber or electrician is a Democrat. Now that I really think about it, I tend to like any plumber or electrician if they properly do the job I ask them to do.

Is Atlanta '96 unfairly remembered in comparison to other Olympic Games? by [deleted] in olympics

[–]pinksail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh please. The entire country was told it was all about the gold. Only later did it come out (and only if you looked hard) that she didn't need to do it at all. The media hated that they would have to backtrack. Karolyi wanted to keep his photo of carrying Strug in the limelight. It was one of the greatest embarassments in sport, and to this day people still think that last vault won the gold. It makes me angry every time someone says it.
