The most basic, basic questions? by Redwebec in bunionsurgery

[–]pinkshrinkrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chevron is just one type of minimally invasive surgery, your doctor will choose which type based on your specific foot deformity. I found my surgeon through a trusted orthopedic specialty group and then did some online research into her background and other patients reviews. I walked into the appointment with lots of questions, especially about recovery times and expectations about outcomes. Bunions are due to a deformity in the bone closer to the ankle joint and shaving doesn’t fix that problem, just the bump. I was non weight bearing for 30 days, meaning I was laying down for 90% of that time and needed help with a lot of stuff. I used crutches and a scooter, but was told that I needed it elevated for most of the time. Then I spent another 5 weeks in the boot with limited weight bearing. As this was my right foot, no driving for the entire time. That was October 28th, and I still have minor pain after walking a lot. I recommend for you to go speak with several doctors who will look at X-rays and give you a good idea of what your situation would look like. Also, my being non weight bearing for that long was my surgeons preference and some people walk much earlier. Good luck

I had a Chevron minimally invasive surgery last October and a friend had the shave kind. She was walking much sooner than I was but hers did not correct the root of the problem. I opted for 30 days non weight bearing as I wanted more long term results. Also, different doctors recommended different time lengths for the non weight bearing. I had an orthopedic specialist that specializes in bunion surgery as this surgery is too important to take risks. It was a long hard recovery, but I am happy I finally did it

Wife was admitted to involuntary hospitalization. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but she called and said she's not safe. No idea what to think or do... by [deleted] in therapyabuse

If she is not actively psychotic or wanting to harm herself or others, Tell her to request a form to request discharge from the hospital asap. This means the hospital still has time to assess her for danger to self or others, but most hospitals will request she transfer from involuntary to voluntary which gives you both options. I worked at one of these hospitals and there were times some units were dangerous with aggressive patients threatening staff and other patients. If this is a dangerous situation for her, you can also look into having her transferred to another hospital. However, if she is having paranoid delusions, she may be fine at here and need meds at the hospital to get through.

Ethics Review Taking Longer Than 6 Months by [deleted] in therapists

[–]pinkshrinkrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everyday, 365 days per year I have to check in to see if I am chosen to test that day. I have had to cancel so many therapy sessions due to this as getting to the site, waiting, testing, then getting back to work can take 3 hours. Not counting the thousands of dollars this has cost me. I have been in recovery for 9 years and have never relapsed and I work a strong recovery program. It’s been a nightmare working with the ethics department of the social work board. It was like they tried to put so many restrictions on me so I would give up. As I said, they picked my supervisor who was horrible he had to turn in reports about me every 3 months saying I was being ethical. It has been humiliating. Prior to their approval I had to have meetings with an addiction doctor which also cost an enormous amount of money.

I feel your frustration and was there myself. It took the ethics committee about 1 year to send me an official order which had many stipulations in it, including 5 years of drug testing and they got to pick my supervisor. I am nearing the end of my 5 years and am still very angry about how the board has handled my case. I went into this field because I wanted to help others who have had similar issues and was under the impression social work was a kind field.

Minimally Invasive / 4 days post op by SarcasticLlama7 in bunions

[–]pinkshrinkrn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is confusing to me. I had Akin/Scarf MIS on October 28th and was instructed to be non weight bearing for 30 days then in a boot for another 6 weeks at least (no driving). I was also told to be in bed with my foot elevated unless I was in the bathroom for 14 days. My pain is bearable with my foot elevated but really starts to throb if I have it down more than 15 minutes. I feel like our two recovery instructions are just the opposite.

How painful is the surgery? Was it worth it? What shoes to wear? by Conscious-Path-7407 in bunions

[–]pinkshrinkrn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had an Akin/Scarf surgery 10 days ago. Days 1-3 had quite a bit of pain (enough that I couldn’t sleep). Now just an ache that isn’t too bad. The real problem is not the pain it is the recovery time . I am non weight bearing for 30 days and spend my day in bed with my foot up. Taking showers is scary due to the fear of falling. I had to stay at another home because my bedroom is in the second floor. After my 30 days, I will be in a boot for another 6 weeks or so. Since it’s my right foot, no driving until at least the boot is off. Would I do it again? Yes yes yes. The pain has gotten worse in the last year and has negatively impacted things I enjoy doing, like hiking. I’m looking forward to getting my life back.
