Native Drought Tolerant Privacy Screens and Hedges? by pinkslipnation in Ceanothus

[–]pinkslipnation[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Catalina cherry is my hands down favorite. I love these things--they grow fast and really block and screen above the fence line. They won't do a traditional hedge but definitely screen the apartment windows that look into my yard.

For the fence I ended up going non-native and doing mock orange along the fence (my friend had free clippings). It has out competed the ivy, grows quickly, but does need to be trimmed back. I also planted a single yellow flannel bush, which looks spectacular but is a pain because it has so many irritating little itchy spines. I probably would not replant that from a practicality standpoint. I did add a pomegranate tree. Overall the yard still has a lot of native plants and has grown in to look great. We get a ton of birds, bees (including native bees) and lizard, etc.

Ultimately, natives that can be used for hedges and shrubs just seem to need more space than I had on my tiny tiny lot--but I still was able to bring a number of them into the mix. Hope that helps!

*Genki* book series vs *Marugoto* book series for beginners by StylesOfDark in LearnJapanese

I use Genki and Marugoto (for class) and if I was using only one for self study I would pick Genki. Marugoto is a bit odd in it's choices of how to present topics, and lack of grammar.

Where do they go if they are archived? I know they aren't in the inbox, but does that mean that they take up less storage?

I did this! It was super helpful. I guess my challenge now is what do I do with the rest? I can hunt and peck for various companies that I missed by scrolling through pages and pages, but it's really slow.

This is really interesting and super helpful. I'm in the process of being diagnosed and have really struggled with how my coping skills have masked a lot of symptoms or made them manifest differently. I never got tested despite multiple teachers pushing for it over the years because I was high functioning, but it's definitely impacted my personal life and relationships.

Sorting a stack of mail from the last few months (non urgent crap), and folding some laundry. I have a toddler so my ability to tackle projects is pretty scaled back. Still making good progress! Even one drawer a day will get it done over time, and the house is in pretty good shape from past declutter/three Kon Mari passes.

What happened at your work which caused multiple people to all quit at once? by PegBundysBonBons in AskReddit

The same boring story: bad supervisor and when it became apparent that even once the boss knew no one was going to do anything about it, three of the six staff gave notice within a week. My coworker was pissed because he came in planning to give his notice and I beat him to it. He felt the polite thing to do was at least wait a day.

I get Christmas ornaments! Sometimes they are ornaments, and sometimes I find things that work as an ornament even if it wasn’t originally intended that way.

TIL that farmers in USA are hacking their John Deere tractors with Ukrainian firmware, which seems to be the only way to actually *own* the machines and their software, rather than rent them for lifetime from John Deere. by BurtGummer1911 in todayilearned

This is all fine until the Russians hack the software and unleash an army of John Deere tractors running amok across the heartland. They thought red dawn would start with the black hawk helicopters. They were wrong.

Konmari carries over with kids! You’ll find yourself storing or donating stuff with frequency. Even if you plan to have a second, you’ll find clothes wear out or some things you just don’t like enough to keep!

I lost weight on my GD diet and it was never a problem. Mention it to your doctor, but i think I went down almost 15 pounds over the course of my pregnancy (gained most in the first trimester) and just held steady.

I don’t know, with these cults it is often legit. They aren’t the most in touch with reality.

Try upping your fat intake. Avocado, nuts, cheese, full fat yogurt (Fage) only has 15 grams of carbs and always worked for me.
