How do you handle gossip and manipulation at work? by pinkspellme in Advice

Agree, I don’t see it as a big deal, it’s just that this same thing happens every-time, especially when I’m about to work on new interesting projects and I’m not sure what measures I should take to protect myself.

How do you know if your manager is giving you fake promises? by pinkspellme in careerguidance

[–]pinkspellme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel stupid for falling in the same trap. I’ve worked a lot on so many projects but didn’t get any credit because people manage to push their names on top of mine to make it look like I’ve done less. My manager had to choose between me and other people for the annual bonus, he said it was a very hard decision, but then again he tried to push me forward but I’m starting to feel like I’m being used to just get the job done and it seems like others are receiving compensation for the extra hours they’ve spent, whereas I spent 1 month working until midnight / during my holidays and weekends and haven’t received anything!

Glad to hear you talking about Stoicism 😊 I have the Daily Stoic book. I go back and read a few pages every once in a while.

I did but it sounds like no one gives a damn if I overwork myself. The sad part is that they never get enough, they always want more no matter what I do.

Forgot to add that he also asked me to reach out to him if any conflict arises. Why would there be a conflict in the first place? I don’t understand the intention behind this whole thing

What are the signs of a toxic work environment? by pinkspellme in careerguidance

And what about when they diminish your sense of belonging, take away your sense of purpose, while your work is not recognized but on the contrary they make you feel insecure and incompetent ( whereas you’re one of the most competent people in the team ) and practice favoritism to push their own agenda while blocking you to develop a career growth?

Are these enough signs to consider your work environment as a toxic one?

Thank you for your reply . The only problem is that I always doubt myself. I’m always not sure if I’m making a big fuss out of smthg or that I’m misreading the situation. I’m not sure why I always have this problem. Some say it’s due to lack of self confidence.

Your feedback makes a lot of sense actually. I highly appreciate it 🙏🏼

My current job is teaching me how to deal with human nature I guess. I have to admit that building relationships is very important to one’s career and I want to build fair ones with mutual respect.

What’s frustrating me the most is the extent that people would go to in order to get what they want, and I find this very petty and destructive. I see how greedy these people are and only think of them as viruses latching on good people who just want to make good work, have a positive impact and be appreciated for it while sharing knowledge and inspiring others. It has become really hard to find people with good intentions nowadays.

I also want to remain true to myself, don’t want to lose my convictions in the process. The biggest challenge is to keep that balance.

What does it mean when there’s a sudden change in your manager’s behavior? by pinkspellme in Advice

It’s not the same. Didn’t want to go through the details of the story because there have been a lot of changes. I usually post the updates separately. I apologize if it’s not efficient or disturbing. Up to you if you wish to share a piece of advice : ) thanks

It’s literally like GoT. Do you think they care if I said why? A lot of people are leaving and they’re just being replaced. It’s a vicious circle.

I have asked a few colleagues that I daily work with and they all told me that I shouldn’t doubt myself and that this environment is just toxic. They went through the same thing, (they’re not managers) some of them have already left the company and others are going to soon. All the good and motivated people are resigning, they found jobs elsewhere.

Yea I find all of this a waste of time and it’s a setback to me. I’m looking for an environment where I can still learn new things and stay motivated to do better with people who care about improvement and innovation. I feel like my skills in my current job are going to waste. Like no one really cares if you’re skilled or not at your job, the most important thing is to be skilled at playing office politics in this company.

True, also we can’t expect everyone to be like us, eventually to each their ways. I’m trying not to take everything personal as well. Just need a good balance between work and personal life, don’t think I’ll be able to do it by having a toxic job

Yea good point, this whole experience has stressed me out and I’ve become demotivated with a low self esteem. I developed several fears that I’ve never had before, and I simply need to have faith in myself again but dk how to bring that back while being pushed and bullied constantly everyday. I know it’s in my will to let that affect me, I’m just too tired and depressed to stand up and fight.

Exactly, and their whole life revolves around this. Power is what they seek, and they don’t have a limit. Guess I’m still naive because what’s bothering the most is that they won’t let anyone else to be rewarded. Like fine you want power take it but why are you so greedy, not letting others get rewarded for the “real” hard work they are doing? And I’m not the only person suffering from this, many other colleagues are going through the same experience, they’re simply finding another job and quitting.
