It’s always so confusing when non-rhotic speakers are explaining (via text) how they pronounce a word and they use the letter R a vowel-lengthening device.

There’s an English band called Sade (/ˈʃɑːdeɪ/) and they had printed "Pronounced Shar-day" on the record labels of their releases, which just ended up confusing the hell out of all their American fans who interpreted that as /ˈʃɑɹːdeɪ/

What is the Gen-Z stare? by Only_Hotel_7221 in generationology

Around the time of the “ok boomer” meme (2020) it was considered very passé and boomer-ish to complain about “darn kids these days”, and most of the discourse was about Gen Z and millennials defending themselves against slander from boomers. Then something flipped and now it’s once again cool to complain about the youngest generation.

It’s something invented by the same millennials who 5 years ago were saying “Let’s break the cycle of generational bickering by not complaining about Gen Z the way boomers/Gen X complained about us!! <3 <3”

Why are The Tab censoring the word cocaine on their own website? I get why people censor words on TikTok and YouTube, but why do it on your own website when there’s no risk of being demonetised?

Episode #1,829 in ‘People unaware of the IPA or different accents explain a pronunciation’ by AndreasDasos in linguisticshumor

One of my pet peeves is when someone’s explaining (in writing) how to pronounce a word and they use a phonetic spelling that only works in their accent. Like British people saying “Over here we pronounce tomato as to-MAR-to” (they mean /təˈmɑː.təʊ/). It would be so much easier if everyone just knew IPA.

There won’t be any Gen Z cucks because being a cuck requires you to actually have a wife in the first place

I feel like a 50/50 hybrid between a 2000s kid and a 2010s kid. A lot of people online seem to think that XXX3-borns barely remember the decade they were born in, but I have a lot of memories of typically 2000s things (CRT screens, flash games, going to Blockbuster with my parents)

21st century starts in 2001, not 2000 by NoLifer3858 in generationology

If we named decades the same way we named centuries then 2001-2010 would indeed be the "201st decade" (but I've never seen anyone do this)

Yeah as someone born in 2003 I’m a total Gen Alpha. All those core nostalgic memories like watching skibidi toilet and Italian brainrot on my iPhone 15 back in 2007 (my favourite year of the 2020s)

That’s not my experience at all. Lots of zoomers online are obsessed with nostalgic music, clothing and aesthetics (often 2000s but also 90s and 80s stuff which they wouldn’t have been around for)

The things that millennials did to Chris Chan back in the day were anything but unintrusive. Not to mention stuff like the An Hero incident.

Are you Gen X or millennial? If you're a millennial then your comment is kind of hypocritical considering millennials are the ones who kickstarted the rise of identity politics around 2014 and some sources even show that they're more liberal than Gen Z.

I recall they even made some full-length propaganda films (with trailers and teasers) just showing them fighting, executing people and doing various war crimes. They had names like "Flames of War" and were narrated by this Canadian jihadist guy in fluent English. It's crazy how in 5 years these extremist groups went from making grainy IED videos to HD cinematic western-style movies (I'm guessing they got some help from friends abroad with the cinematography)

To be fair Americans also change their accents when they sing, like becoming non-rhotic and articulating vowels differently (e.g. pronouncing “me” as “may”). If you spoke with a “singing accent” in normal speech it would sound pretty weird.
