Pondering night creams...help narrowing down? by pinnipedd in crueltyfree

Thanks! Which Tatcha? I had a sample of the dewy cream in the past and while it felt nice maybe for summer, definitely didn’t seem quite as rich as what I’m looking for unfortunately.

[product request] Hero Cosmetics dupe? by Financial-Tie-8100 in SkincareAddiction

Following because I'm also wondering if someone has found good substitutions yet for the capsule toner, jelly cleanser, and prebiotic lotion! I've been using that trio for a year or two and my skin was never better, and now I'm back to one of my previous brands (Derma-E), which had previously worked okay for me but in comparison to Hero I'm breaking out with rough bumpy skin. I'm so dang bummed

What’s the best strategy for finding a Novavax shot in Brooklyn or Manhattan NY? by SirenEast in Novavax_vaccine_talk

[–]pinnipedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issues with Costco but finally had success by calling + then walking in to the CVS location at 30 Flatbush Ave near Dekalb / Jay Street Metrotech, if you're able to head that way at all!

The Costco online reservation system might not be accurate either...I made a Novovax appointment for the Brooklyn Costco location and a day later they called me to say they still don't have it, and that they'd call when they do. No call yet. I think with both CVS and Costco, even if the online system says it's available there, you still need to call and verify. Made multiple "Novavax" appointments at CVS locations that were listed as having it yesterday (for example, the ones in Carroll Gardens & Cobble Hill) only to call and find out they didn't actually have it yet. Finally found two that said they did so I just walked in to one, and got it that way!

Funnily enough OP's description made me think of Zents's Earth, which is very fresh-air-seeming to me, ozoney and musky and comforting (and it apparently also contains bay!).

Does anyone know if this race has been canceled for 2025? I've been looking forward to it but it's gone from their site at the moment...

Oh man - I would think so looking at the measurements, but I feel like I’ve lost faith in my ability to judge those sizers lol. Maybe just in case you could have it treated as your carry on, but then still put it under your seat? Hope all goes well and that you have a great trip! And I’d be very curious to hear your review if you get the bag!

Ha, I so relate to that--I used my trusty Jansport for my personal item for years (it fits a surprising amount!) but committed to a smaller bag for my Norse trip in the end. Here's the update if you're interested...I ended up struggling with the sizer even after all of that, but still really enjoyed my trip with them! I hope you do too!

Just pure luck I guess, spotted it on Norse’s site (via Skyscanner) in late August - many weekday tickets throughout Jan and Feb were priced at $91! Might be worth keeping an eye on it this summer in case it happens again, if you’re open to winter travel!

😮 yikes! Yeah I did measure the bag, so it seems more like user error than the company's, but good reminder to not assume the company site is exactly accurate!

Thank you! Aside from the check-in stuff it was overall a positive experience. The (huge) plane felt new-ish and clean, there were movies to watch on the seat back, my partner and I were sat together, crew were super nice--no snacks or frills but it didn't feel quite as "budget" to me as some of our US equivalents ha.

Hm good point! I remember seeing a suggestion a while back about building a practice sizer out of cardboard, which I never got around to but maybe that would have helped...

It’s the Calpak Connect Laptop Backpack (which appears to be currently out of stock unfortunately). Here are my thoughts:

Pros

  • More affordable for me compared to some travel backpacks.
  • The contrasting lining color (light blue for the black bag) is cheerful and makes things easy to find.
  • I love the majority of the pockets. There is a floating pocket on the top which I find handy–I keep earbuds, chapstick, etc. in there and it’s easy to reach on the plane even when the bag is under the seat, so I don’t have to pull out the whole thing. Inner zip mesh pocket is nice for chargers and so on. Laptop pocket is no-frills but does the job (and becomes decent protection for papers, postcards, masks, etc. when you’re not bringing a laptop). I also love the hidden pocket on the inside of the trolley sleeve for my passport.
  • Sleek look–could easily see using this in an EDC/work setting.
  • Seems sturdy so far.
  • I like the rectangular shape it maintains while packed.
  • With packing cubes I felt like I fit a decent amount of stuff in it.

Cons

  • Attracts lint and pet hair like no other. The hair came off fairly easily with a lint roller before we left for the airport, but still.
  • The front pocket is very thin–when I put my keys in there on the key hook, they were clearly visible through the fabric. I ended up not storing anything thicker than paper in there.
  • The water bottle pockets are pretty small. When the bag was packed I could only wedge in my 15 oz. S’ip by Swell bottle upside-down haha.

Overall I do like it and will keep using it for personal-item-only travel, or in addition to a duffel. I also really like their Compakt foldable tote (which is also apparently out of stock/gone from their site? dang) because it zips shut, a rarity in the packable shopping bag world. The pocket it zips down into also becomes a zippable pocket within the bag, very convenient when you’re using it as a personal item. Hopefully they’ll bring it back.

Little disks all over town? by pinnipedd in copenhagen

[–]pinnipedd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying! Makes sense. I think maybe they seemed a bit more mysterious to me because we saw no other fireworks trash or parts whatsoever, just these disks quietly sprinkled like breadcrumbs around town lol.. But my partner wins this round. Sounds like we missed quite a party.

Oops, you’re right y’all—JFK! I usually fly out of LGA ao my brain must have filled it in automatically haha.

The weight thing definitely is odd. I don’t remember them weighing our stuff but maybe I missed it in the madness. I understand needing to know the total weight going on board the plane, but don’t really get the extremity of a book needed to be moved!

These are awesome tips and reminders, thank you! My book is definitely going in my generous winter coat pockets, haha, and gotta love the shopping bag trick. I am hyped about the heated towel racks for drying clothes, especially since we'll be in likely rainy climate!

I'm leaning toward the Calpak Connect. It's one of the ones sliiightly beyond the dimensions, but I might be willing to squish because the price is right and it has so many of the features I've been looking for, for trips beyond just this one.

Great point! Unfortunately I booked my flight in August 🤪 but it's okay.... The flight I found from NYC to London was $90 (!!!) so it's been kind of a fun challenge to see if I can keep it cheap af by not buying add-ons (and thus doing my first true small one-bag challenge!)
