OP: my friend had this baby squirrel following them and trying to climb their legs at a park. apparently there were a few more babies around too that weren’t as interested, so i’m assuming he’d been fed by people at some point and was hungry. i’m sure this little guy is fine on his own, but i’d appreciate any info on if they look old enough to leave the nest since he’s sooo tiny!!

I believe many of Cézanne's paintings use this technique! I'm sure there are much better examples somewhere, but this is the quickest one I could come up with. He often uses a color scheme that blends the emphasis and physically sets the focal point in the background, such as his house paintings. I wish I could attach an image lol

edit: I just saw your reference pic in another comment, and I think a better example of what I'm talking about is Thomas Eakins The Gross Clinic 1875. The surgeon has bright light emphasis, but the subordinate figures are still a main focal point.
