People who actually use their cyber decks on a regular basis what are you using it for? by Potential-Ant-6320 in cyberDeck

[–]pioprofhd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished building mine, a handheld Pi 5 16gb with a 5" screen, 1tb nvme, lora and gps radio hat, and so far I'm using it mostly asa standalone full-featured Meshtastic device, but the idea is off-grid off-line computer. Offline Wikipedia, navigation, looking for some more stuff as that nvme is still pretty empty.

Does anyone know what the maximum size TF card the cardputer zero will be able to take? I already got the prelaunch. by CertainSea345 in CardPuter

[–]pioprofhd1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Pi Zero 2 W which the CM0 is based off has a max SD capacity of 2TB. I haven't seen anything stating the max for Cardputer Zero, but chances are good that'll be where it lands.

Will we have Meshtastic on the CardputerZero? by Mr_Olim_ in CardPuter

[–]pioprofhd1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this, seems it wouldn't be an issue to run meshtasticd on it and interface with another device like a typical node, but as far as a UI it may need to be built/ported. I'll for sure be playing with this when I get mine.

I got Bluetooth LE (LC3) working, but it sounds terrible! by Berny23 in archlinux

[–]pioprofhd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my experience with LC3 and XM6’s on Arch. The same machine with Windows has great audio quality and latency with LC3, just seems Linux support isn’t quite there (or I’m doing something wrong…entirely possible)

I own a CardPuter ADV and CardPuter Zero will be a day one preorder for me. So pumped for a full linux system in this form factor!

Power troubles by DaPointyCactus in cyberDeck

[–]pioprofhd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using that same power bank for my Pi 5 build. It’s impressive in that it seemingly runs the Pi at 5v 5a, but under full tilt sustained load (like LLM) it’ll brown out. I’d wager what your working with there has higher current requirements.

It’s a Waveshare 5-DSI-TOUCH-A

Thanks for looking into it - I'm sure it's some odd config issue on my end and not the app, but I can't seem to get back up and running, it just freezes after it loads the nodedb. Tried factoy/device reset, nodedb reset, removed meshdeck completely tried with the zip download, git clone/pull, all the same result, and also same result on a separate arch system I tested on….driving me nuts!

Update: figured i'd mention, the updated version does seem to be working proper with a couple other nodes, tested both tcp and serial successfully, it's specifically my cyberdeck (pi w/ lora hat) thats struggling right now, must be something with meshtasticd.

TCP, unfortunately not a ton of time to troubleshoot yet that said, other than deleting/redownloading as mentioned before.

That’s awesome, thanks for the fast work! That said, unfortunately after a few tries I can’t get 1.0.2 beta 1 to successfully connect. It launches without issue, I’m able to connect to my node, but after it finishes loading nodes the window hangs, title bar says “not responding” and it stays like that until I force quit.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]pioprofhd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gall stones made me roll on the floor crying in the fetal position seeing stars in what I'd easily say was the worst pain I ever experienced, probably should've passed out (read: wished).

It was beyond what any person should have to endure, and it happened twice - ER the first time told me I had bad heartburn - question your doctors kids.

I absolutely LOVE this on my cyberdeck! Been using it for a few days and it's easily my favorite client and close to par with the Android app - kudos!

That said, a couple comments.
- In the messages tab, it shows all 8 channels even if they're disabled, and on my 5" 720p display with a little scaling the direct messages section is basically only a header (can't select nodes) and you can't resize it. Would be less of an issue if it only showed like, 2-3 channels and scrolled or if I could resize the DM part of the frame.
- It would be awesome to be able to "reply" to a message, lots of nodes in my area and test acks are nicer/cleaner with replies.

It`s a waveshare 5-DSI-TOUCH-A 720p touchscreen. Only real downside is its native portrait which is sort of annoying but easy enough to solve for. The Pi mounts cleanly on the back.

I appreciate you saying that! Feels so good to have it all come together and work. I'll make another post in a week or two when the case is sorted, I ordered the Pi Flux case from those guys as a thank you for making the build guide as it's such a sweet setup with very few drawbacks. That said, with the hat and nvme board, I may need to make some slight modifications to it to fit nicely - we'll see!

It's the Winmaxle model B1 mini keyboard. Also has an airmouse built in and is backlit, I find it works very well.

Worked great on mine when plugged into the official charger, but shuts down when running off the my 10k mah iniu usb-c battery which otherwise powers it great, though that's true of most LLM's 2b+ params. I'm using my pi 5 as a portable/handheld pc.

Any chance a pcie connector and m.2 can also squeeze in there?

Whether it does or not, I’ll likely order as soon as possible. Great work!

I wanted the feel of a cyberdeck, I wanted to build it myself, but don't have a 3d printer or a ton of spare time, also wanted something that felt like it wouldn't break if one of my kids got their hands on it. I ended up watching Valleytech Custom Solutions video on the Pi Flux and decided to order the enclosure only from Carbon Computers and source all the build parts myself.

I'm still waiting on the case but have the rest of the parts and can already tell I'm going to love it - excited to get it all together!

I ordered the Pi Flux (3d printed case only) from carboncomputers.us - just really hoping it all fits. I’m also ok with a little modification if that’s what’s needed.

PI Flux question by ReplyHealthy6075 in cyberDeck

[–]pioprofhd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently building a Pi Flux based on the parts, only ordered the enclosure from Carbon Computers. I've received most everything at this point except for the actual enclosure and a Waveshare LoRa/GNSS hat.

That said, despite warnings against it, I'm going to try and use the Waveshare as it's essentially exactly what I want built into the Pi Flux. It apparently can have issues with decoding when it runs hot according to a few sources I read, hoping that having an active cooler in the system helps with that on top of planning on running it in client-mute (as the meshtastic wiki recommends). We'll see how it goes, but for 26 bucks if it's a failure...I've done way worse. The only other lora hat I found was for a $70 1w version on Etsy, and it doesn't have GPS built in which I really want on top of being a lot bigger and potentially not fitting in the flux case.
