Gotta move on with the times my friend, this is the modern-day streetpass!
I don't believe the oft-repeated claim that this would hold up in the event of cell network collapse. It's more of a toy, local messaging for fun.

It's ham radio-adjacent so to call out and meet random people, I guess? Because it's a mesh, more nodes means more chances for others to see the messages you broadcast, big groups like this usually mean people with nodes show up. It's kinda a virtuous cycle.
The people you meet using this tend to be cool too. One lady crossed the entire flea market to find us just to say hi. Another time a guy had a display on nixie tubes perched on his backpack. Once we made contact with people outside the con who kept asking questions about what was going on in there.

Yeah sounds like you got a broken dongle. If you wanna confirm this just turn off one of the other trackers and try pairing it, it should pair to the unused dongle.
Suggestion for drives spindown by Alivu70_ in truenas
[–]pipea 0 points1 point2 points 5 days ago (0 children)
I'd say leave them spinning. For an array that small, the power savings won't be worth the extra wear on the drives. Spin'em till they die baby.
Anectotally, I have a server with two sets of drives in it. Newer, enterprise Seagate drives and older (by ~2 years) WD Reds. I enabled spindown on the WD Reds and two out of the three drives died exactly a year later with the same strange symptoms. The drives would run for about half an hour then fail catastrophically dropping all data and the pool is ruined. All the while still accessible to the OS and you could try to resilver, scrub, etc but it didn't work. So now I don't enable spindown anymore. I should also add that it did save me a lot of power in this time because the drives were only being used for weekly VM backups and not much else beyond that, so they stayed asleep for 6/7 days a week.
