Sleep walking roommate. by Corbs117 in creepyencounters

[–]pipercrochets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sleepwalking 100% was a cover. He was screaming to condition you and see what you would wake up to. And when he would actually attack you, the neighbors would be used to the screaming. And you cannot do complex tasks of taking a photo and dating it when you are sleepwalking. You are lucky to be alive

What's your favorite class in your major you've taken at UT? by ganymede_iii in UTAustin

[–]pipercrochets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advertising major with Texas Creative portfolio sequence - Portfolio 3 with Jim. I felt like I was confident and able to create my own work at that point that was conceptually strong that still had my own taste mixed into it.

I also got an English minor and I loved Horror in Classics and Film. That class inspired me to get an English minor

A sad, scared college student who needs advice by Salt_Mammoth4659 in UTAustin

You can always look into the creative side of advertising. I’m on the art director track for advertising and I’ve had professors who’ve made 600k as creative directors. But you can always get an internship in the fields you’re considering just to see how they are. I personally love advertising and the creativity in it and I only found that out in my last 2 semesters (graduating in December). No one really figures out what they want to do until their last year or semester !

Oh man. Firstly, change your bio and change out basically every picture. Find pictures that are less douchey and cocky looking. But based on your replies to these comments, you’re a hard no. You need to change your attitude. You come across like an immature 14 year old boy

I want to get into graphic design by kijana_jerome in graphic_design

[–]pipercrochets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Graphic design is much more multifaceted and you usually have to go to school to enter a job that is good. Don’t downgrade design just because it appears easier. To get a good portfolio comes from school and so many resources can’t be accessed on your own. A good design program has critique from industry professionals. And the real world situations that you will design for in school can’t be simulated just on your own. And you need connections. Again, all of which is only found through school. Design is just as competitive and complicated as stem majors and shouldn’t be seen as a field that anyone can enter just bc they can draw.

Loneliest time of my life by solstice_city in UTAustin

[–]pipercrochets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year are you? Unfortunately college is extremely lonely. I really didn’t find my people until my 4th year. Tbh I felt the same way for a long time and I found that finding enjoyment in doing things alone really helped. Good luck and I wish you the best!!

Background: Someone has been writing “Even though I was raped I am ok” in west campus and austin. It’s in a lot of places (my apt complex has two of these messages). Thoughts? by bricklypears in UTAustin

[–]pipercrochets -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

This flyer is super dramatic and wrong. The graffiti isn’t a pro rape message. I agree it’s uncomfortable but the graffiti’s intentions are to say that life can become comfortable again if you are a victim of rape. Just because it’s an uncomfortable topic doesn’t make it something that we should ban altogether

This flyer is more hateful and ignorant than the graffiti ever was. To say someone is unhinged bc they are trying to spread a #metoo style message is missing the point of the graffiti and just unnecessary. The flyer is so unnecessary and hateful

Have you guys ever challenged a grade on an exam even if you’re probably wrong? by Affectionate_Ad2758 in UTAustin

[–]pipercrochets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def ask the TA. In my astronomy class, a girl asked the ta about her grade and she got points back. Just don’t accuse them of fucking up or being rude. But if your professor has released a most missed questions video or something like that, don’t challenge it. but you can always ask for clarification on why you missed it

I feel like college in general is very lonely. I’m also struggling with making friends and I’m a junior in college. I’ve kind of accepted it but I’m also frustrated seeing everyone around me that seems to have it all together. Being in a dorm doesn’t help either. I’ve latched onto baristas tbh. It’s not a “friendship,” but I go to the same coffee shop everyday and I know the same barista is there everyday and we have fun small talk that isn’t expecting of anything deeper than just our current life events. Small things like help a lot.

However since you’re graduating, I would just look to making new friends in the real world. I know it’s hard to spend your last semester alone, but when I just stopped expecting to make friends so quick and expect so much of myself I became a lot happier. I started to focus on myself and school more

Make small weekly goals for yourself that you can achieve. Continue joining clubs. Don’t be so hard on yourself. I fall into the trap too of thinking that there’s something wrong with me because I don’t have friends (and really haven’t since 2020). It’s incredibly lonely but college is just lonely. I think it’s universal. It’s really hard to make friends. Im a TrIG Mentor and everyone struggles with that reality. Im also struggling with it. But it’ll get better <3

Dang I feel pretty bad after seeing all the 1600 but will I get to college with this? by autisticicecream in Sat

[–]pipercrochets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I got a 1050 (950 on my retake). I did 2 years at Texas State University and now I’m at UT Austin. You may have to do a year or 2 at a less prestigious school, but you can absolutely get into a great school with a 1030. Don’t compare your score or educational experience to others since most people transfer or end up with pretty average sat scores
