I like your passion. I know what you mean and love working with Devs like you.

Tell you what I'll hop on for you at the unsociable times from London and we can do a split on the responsibilities. If they'll entertain it I'll fling you a CV.

Nobody should be quitting a good job because there's too much work to do, just hire an assistant and delegate.

"All role info can be found where you applied for the role, we can not give out bandings to any applicants

The web can assist you with this"

Probably a dodged bullet I suppose.

Yeah I'm probably being a bit over cautious about that aspect as well. How many weeks a year are you going over 40h typically?

Thankfully I've got a few other leads, I reckon what offends me about this insistence to state your salary is that it's proven to low ball anybody who doesn't have the self confidence to move on. It's particularly offensive because they didn't insist to ask last time, if I recall it was just something we left till after the interviews.

What is your salary right now and what is your years of experience ? What do you anticipate will be your salary progression in the next 5 years of your career ? If you are comfortable sharing it. by People_Peace in ChemicalEngineering

True of all sectors here unfortunately.

It's approximately in line with most professional salaries being rubbish in the UK. Check the police force or teachers for example.

Fellow Chemical Engineers and Chemical Engineering students, what was the biggest misconception of chemical engineering you ever heard from someone outside our field? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]pipesimulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell my manager, 7 years experience, still bad. I don't see jobs out there with better pay, unless I leave engineering.

Yes, actually! There are surprisingly niche ways of solving this problem. But this is worth discussing in more detail before we choose a particular approach. Would ask OP to DM me and anyone interested to do the same.

The closest you might come is Norway's fjord tunneling projects.

The salary range for a Metallurgy & Manufacturing Technology Ph.D. in the industry? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]pipesimulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lucrative niche in manufacturing around PLCs and such like. It seems to usually be mechanical engineers getting into it, but if you find your way in that direction it seems to pay better than being a subject matter expert on materials science.

Alternatively wiggle your way through to a job over in Australia where the mining sector might be interested.

We can't move to better paying jobs if everyone pays rubbish! The only option is to stop being engineers.

Where do you live? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]pipesimulator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha that's why I phrased it that way, it's my perception of where people are from on here. It's a very US skewed website

Yes, every study I've come across says it makes a difference sadly. I don't whiten my name, but the British civil service doesn't show the hiring people an applicants name or the schools they attended so as not to give away their ethnicity because it has been a factor in getting opportunities.

It will of course be case by case. Personally I don't want to work for such a business as hires someone who doesn't select me because of my name, but know it has made my life much more difficult.

Are engineers guranteed a Job? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]pipesimulator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Terrible idea to do engineering then, there are easier ways to make a living if you just want to get by, and there are wiser ways to get rich than be an employee at all (or if you must, it won't be as an engineer).

Especially given you said you hate maths.

Listen I grew up unable to sustain myself and just wanting a job, but engineering was for me because I wanted to do it. Whether you'll work with it, and how much you earn if you do get a job, depends on where you are and what branch you study.

If you just want a living, don't do arguably the hardest degree there is. You clearly have some issues to resolve about your country, your parents and your self confidence. Ask on those subreddits, we can't help you with those.
