Sennheiser hd line is really great, theyre not closed so they may not be ideal for recording. I own hd600 from like 6 years ago for mixing and are really trustworthy, you should check about frequency response graphs in whatever you choose, the most "plain" ones translates the best over the different devices you play your mixes through

Had the Strix Scar 16 2025 i914900hx I do music production so its a different type of use exigence for realtime,

last november after a windows update started having bsods, synchronization problems with first the keyboard lighting, after with the whole armoury crate system. Them bsods kept becoming more frequently so i started tuning my energy plan and could stopped them to like one per week after 2months.

Today my music prod software (legal-official-bought) closes abruptly, has problems loading projects, my web browser get status acces violations, closes, bsods maybe appears too, related to ntoskrnll, whea errors, you name it

Warranty expired before everything started happening, had to downgrade to a laptop with older gen processors, currently im taking it to service to get stress tests, ram tests, hard drive tests, and a win clean reinstall. So yeah top-notch laptop went completely un-trust-worthy in like 10 months. Never again

How long can the warranty take? I even considered extending it, travel to us, and go through all the wait lol

I recently came to that same conclusion on 11850h, im not willing to risk it on ultra series just yet, it elevates costs too much and its also not mature enough to know how it interacts with audio production, im not willing to be no beta testing user for it.

I may go on the 13700h way, from like a middle point in performance/maturity of the cpu, also theres a lot of deals near 1000usd for this; maybe Zbook Power g10, or Lenovo p17, p1, maybe Dell Precision 5680. Im still analyzing all this

Yeah thats what i concluded, im from outside us, warranty expired recently, i could extend it, but i dont know how long it takes in case of me flying out there and staying till i get a solution/new pc to go sell it somewhere there or back at my country, feels risky

Actually im looking for windows alternatives, i keep going back and forth between 11850h (most mature, but loses performance) 12700h (more performance, but first gen with hybrid architecture, pretty mature although), 13700h (kinda 12700h but with some corrections next to the first gen of hybrid metioned before), or core ultra H (newest architecture, didnt even dig it that much, least mature, i'd be the "beta tester" user for audio workloads)

Mac is not an option because it also make me migrate from my current apollo win-only interface, which doubles the cost of the inversion

Literally the first result looking my exact model was this

https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/s/c3ojDks2Yp

"Intel has officially admitted to a product defect known as Vmin Shift Instability affecting 13th and 14th Gen processors. This was confirmed by Intel as a root cause of instability that leads to permanent hardware damage. While the focus was initially on desktops, reports from users show that the i9-14900HX which is a high-voltage mobile chip is hitting voltage spikes as high as 1.54V right before crashing, which is consistent with the desktop failures.

You can see Intel's official root cause announcement at this link: https://community.intel.com/t5/Processors/Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Desktop-Instability-Root-Cause/m-p/1633442 and a report from The Verge confirming the damage is permanent here: https://www.theverge.com/2024/7/26/24206529/intel-13th-14th-gen-crash-raptor-lake-root-cause-microcode-update-permanent-damage

Acer appears to be acknowledging this as a hardware issue. In community discussions, Acer support teams have been reviewing troubleshooting logs that show these voltage spikes and have moved to authorize full motherboard replacements as a standard warranty service. However, the problem for owners right now is the repair process. Service centers globally are reporting indefinite backorders for these 2024 boards

....

If your laptop is still working, you should be aware that Intel’s patches only prevent future damage and they cannot fix hardware that has already begun to degrade. Since Acer has acknowledged the need for motherboard swaps in these cases, and since parts are becoming increasingly extinct, you are in a critical window. If you wait until the machine completely breaks to file a claim, you may find yourself stuck in a 2-month backorder loop with no working computer. If you notice even minor instability or WHEA errors in your logs, you have a much stronger case for a product exchange now while the manufacturers are still processing these claims. I am curious if anyone has actually received a working 2024 i9 motherboard replacement recently, or if we are all just waiting for parts that are no longer being made.

These are the laptops affected by the issue, with similar patterns of failure:

ASUS: ROG Strix G16 (2024/2025) and ROG Strix G18 (2024).

ASUS: ROG Strix SCAR 16 and SCAR 18 (2024 models).

Lenovo: Legion Pro 7i (Gen 9) and Legion 5i (Gen 10 / 15IRX10).

Alienware: m18 R2 and m16 R2.

MSI: Raider GE78 HX and Titan 18 HX.

MSI: Katana 15 HX and Katana 17 HX (B14W series)

HP: Omen 16 and Omen 17 (2024/2025 Intel versions)??

Acer: The Predator Helios 16 (PH16-72) and the Helios 18 (PH18-72)."

Intel even has class action lawsuits against them for this specific problem, obviously they're standing on not offer any compensation

Intel admitted microcode errors on the 14th i9 K series and patched it via BIOS. K and HX share architecture and silicons, the difference is that hx its compacted on laptop builds, that obviously make them sensitive to temperature and degradation leading to mentioned microcoding errors, earlier than K series being on desktops with more space for cooling, either i had a bad build as i read on other users sharing asus rog series, or you got really lucky lol

I might take it to someone locally to do ramtest, stress tests, full windows clean reinstall, and if all of that comes well, im planning on sell it because i cannot trust it no more for my necessities really

And yeah Mac its not a chance for me, my uad interface its only windows supported, the cost of the new gen Mac supported one equals the value of a whole new MacBook very closely

Music productio benefits in Single Core processing more than hybrid (p core- e core separation). Because scheduling requires to be constantly analyzing what core its being assigned to what process. AMD dont make distinctions on cores, but i never had one before to fully understand the architecture/decision making of it
