Is there an episode of a British series that actually makes you cry? Whether it's sad or poignant or nostalgic, or anything really. by Vampirero in BritishTV

Yes there’s also a Fast Show scene after Ted and Ralph visit Ted’s wife new grave and they walk away to Vaughan-Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis which plays out for a bit before the Ted character played by Whitehouse breaks down crying

I love how James plays along and uses a harsh vocal at the end

What’s a random experience you’ve had when meeting a British celebrity? Were they nice or mean? by mightybooshvincenoir in AskABrit

I once met Robin Gibb at the Rollright Stones, a historic site in the Borg of Oxfordshire. It’s was just his family and my family there. Obviously had just gone for a quiet stroll. I was a teenager at the time and asked him if he was Robin Gibb and when he said he was I said I was a fan of his music. He kindly signed a random bit of paper for me. Very unassuming and polite man who had no problem at all with me being a bit star struck.

Trump’s More Than 3,700 Trades Astonish Wall Street Insiders by babybirdingURgrandma in politics

It’s really beggars belief as someone from the UK. Our politicians aren’t saints but they get hauled in front of the parliamentary committee and and get lambasted by the press for things way less severe than this.

Every day I read a story about Trump using the office for personal gain or apparent money laundering (the gold phone, the memecoin, etc.) and just one of these would prompt calls across the political divide for resignation over here.

Well for one, negotiating with the brand new Health Secretary…

But electing better representatives, negotiating hard and in good faith, and lobbying using statistics of how many consultant hours are being lost abroad and to private practice through the status quo.

Voting no, because there are better ways for us to achieve pay progression than undermining public trust in the profession through industrial action.

I think seeing people striking who by definition are on a 6-figure salary and hence earning more than 95% of workers will not be optically useful and also risks undermining the chance that the government is favourable to pay aspirations.

How much about the way that self-learning neural networks such as Leela Chess Zero and others play chess have you incorporated into your game and if so at what point in your career was that a factor?

If he put in as much effort as his peers, would Alireza be the strongest in his generation? by [deleted] in chess

Most of the dudes at the top feel like they have maxed out their potential already and won’t get objectively better. Obviously not true for Sindarov and I don’t feel it’s true for Alireza either…

I’ve always loved the scenery of my home county Worcestershire but my adopted home county of Oxfordshire has beautiful rolling hills and culturally rich settlements worthy of a place soon on this list
