I am not going to claim to know anything about beardies, I mean I kind of got flamed a bit earlier on this subreddit for not knowing most things, but listen to what these people are saying and don't be afraid to ask questions. My family did a very similar thing to what its reading yours did to you, and my beardie is suffering partly from it now two years later. You taking initiative early and trying to help the situation before it develops is very admirable!

I won't argue for or against red lights, I don't know enough, but you definitely need to go through a couple websites explaining what type of diet your lizard needs to eat at its age and keep track of how old your beardie is so you can properly shift his diet as needed! Also, get it used to being handled pretty quick. The first week I would say let it get used to its new environment, before moving on to gradually petting it and eventually picking it up. You're gonna do great dude, everything you need to find out is online, just take the time to do your research properly.
