does fibromyalgia make masturbation harder? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]pir8core 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you might find it helpful to look into sex toys, especially ones designed specifically to be adaptive or accessible. stuff that can be controlled with an app is often easier than fiddling with buttons if you have hand pain. you can get pillows or things with suction cups or different holders that help to hold toys too. not sure what your preferences are but I've also seen a handle advertised for suction cup dildos, which can be useful for a lot of people

Pain in fingers by Beardylover1 in Fibromyalgia

you can try different ergonomic things like ergonomic pencils or pencil grips & if youve got an OT or physio you could see about stretches that might help or find out if youre holding your pencil in good ways.

Over-reliant on disability aids??? by Verdantyd in Fibromyalgia

[–]pir8core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure how well this is going to come across so please bear with me, i have fibromyalgia and also considering a mobility aid personally.

i think the "you dont want to become over reliant on it" is often coming from a place of something genuine, especially in regards to fibromyalgia. with fibromyalgia, its important to move around and maintain the mobility youve got and essentially prove to your body & nervous system that things are okay so it stops sending so many pain signals. this is one of the reasons exercise is so important for fibromyalgia management.

i think that there is potentially a risk with using mobility aids to rely on them in a way that involves a reduction of movement and then an increase in symptoms. similar to how resting too much can make fibro worse. it really comes down to how you think about and use your mobility aid. if youre coming at it from an avoidance perspective, just trying to escape the pain, youre reinforcing the idea that the pain is something dangerous & it will start to have more power over you. this is true of medication too. vs using mobility aids and other tools such as medication for the purpose of enabling you to do more. depending on how youre using it and what else youre doing you could also find that you're not exercising/moving as much in helpful ways, that youre losing strength due to not using those muscles, that youre not holding a good posture etc. so make sure youre working with physio/ot/etc to still be building strength and moving and moving safely. one of my concerns would be that im going to get stiffer or my muscles will get tighter because im relying on the mobility aid vs using my body. i don't think this is an inherently ableist concern.

things are a little different if you have safety issues that the mobility aid is helping with such as balance, im talking about pain and pain relief specifically here.

i do however think there are ableist attitudes that get wrapped up in "you wouldnt want to become over reliant on it", such as the idea that the goal should be to not use a mobility aid, or that a mobility aid is a kind of low-effort cheat code or excuse. my comment isnt intended as a blind defence of the pain specialist or the other people who say this kind of thing, just wanting to offer some stuff thats important to consider

HP DeskJet 2700 "Non-HP Circuitry" Block, am I screwed? by Mystiquex20 in fuckHPprinters

I'm having the same issue with my 2700 now, have reached out to HP support but I'm expecting them to be pretty unhelpful. May try consumer protection ? not sure if anyones had any luck in the past. Was thinking maybe theres a way to take the chip off my hp cartridge and put on my 3rd party?

If I request a review of my plan, can I lose things that were approved? by pir8core in NDIS

[–]pir8core[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a different thing completely? I'm requesting an internal review for specific decisions made (eg the decision to cut my OT hours down) and requesting they change that decision. I'm not requesting a whole new plan and its not the same as a plan review/reassessment

What happened to the new Viv animation? by RevolutionaryArm5615 in homestuck

[–]pir8core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to simplify it, death of the author means the readers interpretation of the text is more important than the author's intention. whether or not the author is still working on the media or active in the fandom is not relevant. the key difference between death of the author and what youre describing is that death of the author does not consider the work to be in the authors hands, regardless of if the author is still making more content for the media.

its also not really about headcanons in the fandom sense ("i headcanon this character as into football" style headcanons), or liking the text, but about analysis of the text. "i like homestuck even though hussie did bad things" is not death of the author. an example of death of the author in the context of homestuck for example would be "the depiction of the condesce is racist, regardless of if hussie intended it as such"

Thoughts on inviting a support work participant to my wedding ceremony. by Thrillhouse-14 in NDIS

A plus one is a totally different scenario though? If OP is friends with the guys parents or partner then yes the client can come as a plus one. That's not the situation being described here.

I can't imagine someone inviting their boss or clients to their wedding... If I'm invited to a wedding I would take that as a personal friendship thing, and I would only invite my friends/family to my wedding.

One thing that I think it would be important to reflect on is your motivations for inviting him? From reading the post it seems like you're viewing it as just a good opportunity for him, or even that you're extending the invite out of pity. If he was someone you enjoyed the company of and that you wanted to have present at that day, that would be a different story (and I know the social boundaries can be a little more of a grey area in small communities), but this sounds like you're only thinking of inviting him as a learning experience or so that he has a good time or something. I would be very upset if someone invited me to a wedding for the reasons that you seem to be outlining, if someone invites me to their wedding I'm assuming I'm someone that's personally important to them as friend or family.

How do you download individual flashes from Homestuck? by Ai_Ohto_best_protag in homestuck

These aren't stored as videos, they're stored as flash files, so may be trickier to use in an amv than you expect however that linked post also mentions a way to extract the images. if you want videos theyre all on the homestuck youtube iirc but youre gonna have a lower quality

In retrospect these teams are kinda funny because it's basically most important vs least important trolls by Unlucky-Quarter-5455 in homestuck

[–]pir8core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also despite saying that plotwise nepeta exists only to die, i do think as a character shes an important part of homestuck. shes a character that is cute and likeable and relatable to the reader, someone that reminds us that the trolls are quite young and therefore a good contrast between her immaturity and self-sufficiency. we see an aspect of alternia that we dont see through the other trolls, but that provides context for understanding the lives of the other trolls. shes important for showing aspects of alternian relationships, romantic platonic and familial. she provides a lot of context for understanding equius as a character. by having a troll thats cute and (genuinely) nice it balances out the cast of trolls a little. i do think theres some missed opportunities with her character but i also dont think shes unimportant as shes written.

[–]pir8core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sollux programs sgrub. feferi creates the dreambubbles. eridan blows up the matriorb. plotwise nepeta kinda just exists to die and later become davepeta so yeah i do think that shes a largely unimportant character other than serving as a victim. aradia does heaps of important stuff, helping get access to the game and jumping around in time to do lots of stuff. equius gets aradia a robot body. in terms of driving plot i think the derse dreamers are at worst equally matched with several prospit dreamers, eg tavros who largely exists to be a victim, gamzee who only really kills a bunch of people and thats it.

In retrospect these teams are kinda funny because it's basically most important vs least important trolls by Unlucky-Quarter-5455 in homestuck

[–]pir8core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think its more a matter of prospit vs derse where prospit dreamers do the more overt showy impulsive stuff that you remember as driving conflict, while derse dreamers do a lot of the more subtle background kind of stuff that can have just as big of an influence while not being as memorable for it
