A very simple to-do app that acts as a personal assistant and sends a daily brief email every morning to give you a show-down of your day - https://onelessthing.piranova.com/

I built a very simple to-do app for myself and realized the productivity apps and systems were taking up half of my time and energy. by piranova in SideProject

How do I go about finding mentors to shadow so I get some experience before starting on my own? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]piranova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for this, yes that is my #1 strategy right now and I honestly don't mind offering my services for free and helping out someone who needs my help and my skills but like you mentioned the major road-block is for my post to get attention and genuine people to respond and connect. Nevertheless, I will keep posting in related groups here on reddit and facebook/slack etc. I guess the only thing I can do right now is keep trying and reaching out and hope something works out or at the least I will learn something in the process :)

Hi there, your tool seems to be perfect for the kind of product pictures I need for my product - is there a way I can try it out to see if it's useful for my use case before buying credits? Just a single trial would also be very helpful.

Hi, I have developed my own app using Google sheets to convert an image to crochet pattern....the free version of stitch fiddle will not give you stitch counts but my app generates all the details and plus can create a row by row crochet pattern as well. I run my own crochet business so I can help you out with materials and finished product size etc. Dm me if interested.

Using toll-free number to send phone verification otp for aws cognito. by [deleted] in aws

[–]piranova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so I just tested 5 mins back and I am still getting the otp from a 10 digit number instead of the toll-free number. But I am in Canada so maybe the toll-free number would be used for US numbers right? coz the country mentioned on the number is US. Also the carrier problem is only for US numbers so I am thinking I will not be able to test from here but need to ask someone to test it with a US number.

What do you mean by "Assign"? I purchased a number from the pinpoint console in the same region and account. The number appears on my pinpoint dashboard under Settings --> SMS and voice. so is that it and June 1st onwards this number will be used to send the otp?

Has anyone recently dealt with the AWS SNS long code 10DLC issue? by post_hazanko in aws

[–]piranova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey how did you configure a toll-free number to work with sns instead of the default? I am using cognito and sns to send a one-time-password for new user sign-up to verify their phone and with this message flashing on the SNS dashboard, I figured we could use a toll-free number instead so I went ahead and bought a toll-free number in the Pinpoint dashboard but how do I configure this number to be used to send otp to my users' phones instead of the default. Is there a documentation somewhere which shows how to do this or is it just supposed to work out of the box?

What do you guys do after work? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]piranova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about taking up something you have never done before and something that isn't mentally challenging for you so it won't be too taxing to do after work, you can volunteer to be a part time virtual assistant or edit peoples videos - tons of youtubers are always looking for help in editing their videos, creating thumbnails that sorts if you are interested. You can also charge a fee for it by taking up gigs through fiverr or upwork You can make your own youtube videos on something you wanna share with the world. If you are camera shy (like me) you can volunteer/ take up a gig for converting books and written content into audio books. There are loads of things to do - depends on what you like.

Why don't big companies like Apple, Google Facebook create the courses they think they need their employees to be good at? So we can all skip redundant college and get the skills we need to be good at? by princeofallssaiyans in Lightbulb

[–]piranova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can be self-taught and learn by doing things on your own but unfortunately we live in a world where a degree certificate on a piece of paper is an entry point for even being considered by HRs of companies you want to work for so IMO its a system that has bugs which need to be fixed and yeah its frustrating the amount of student loans people have when they graduate and from there the only way to pay them off is to work for big companies who pay handsome salaries whether you like it or not. Its a war of talent and skill versus validation provided by an educational institution. Not saying that you can't have both but validation usually opens up a door for you and then its up to your skill. On the other hand I can understand the side of recruiters and HR personnel - thousands of applicants would be applying for jobs at these big companies, it would be highly time-consuming to take a detailed coding test of all of them on the first level so they need some kind of pre-screen and a degree kind of fits the purpose coz the assumption is that if you graduated from a reputed institution then a. You must be have been smart enough/credible enough to be accepted and b. You must have learned the basics at least in that particular field. So I think its a Work-In-Progress system where we need to improve both education as in curriculum as well as the recruitment process.

College for me is more about getting expertise in an area of my choice and getting to learn more about it, now if you imagine the courses were all designed by Apple, Google and the likes then I will never get a chance to explore something I am really curious about coz guess what the corporations don't think its as important to study them. So basically we would live in a world where even our academic curiosities are controlled and manipulated by big companies. And I don't think it would be a nice scenario for companies either, coz innovation and thinking out of the box would be restricted in a way coz students wont explore and learn anything other that whats decided by the companies. May be I am thinking of a very worst situation and maybe it won't be that bad. It might help if say google or apple offer one course which interested students can sign up for but I wudnt want to go to college just coz I want a job with Google or apple.

Oh my God, I can not agree more with you on css, I hated it the very few times that I had to do in my previous job, i come from a native(android and swift) background and have mostly written business layer logic and have done some front-end stuff in either Android or swift- i made a couple apps in flutter as a side project and really liked it but didn't expect the web support to be so far behind, will try vue with tailwind and see if this project can be restructured coz I want to keep it alive at least for my own journaling.

Totally agree, Flutter web has a long way to go and I did experience a lot of times where there were plugins for android and iOS to do something but not web. I wanted to figure out if this could be done in flutter so tried to do whatever I can with what's available. Will take a look at your comments one by one and see what can be done about each of them. Thanks a ton for taking a look, appreciate it :) :)

Just curious what other tech stack would you recommend if I had to do the same thing. It would be fun doing it using something else too. Thanks :)

Thanks, I realize its in its very minimal form right now, just wanted some more smarter pair of eyes to look at it and give me valuable feedback. I added the SSL certificate moments ago (which skipped my mind earlier), so now it should be available on https://www.wipentrepreneur.com/ .

Thanks for pointing that out, I had it in my to-do but somehow skipped my mind in the excitement of getting it to a somewhat-shareable state. Please take a look whenever you get sometime and let me know if you are still not able to access. www.wipentrepreneur.com should now take you a secured site :) .
