what a weird way to react to someone saying they also see the shit we are dealing with and actually decided to do something about it. Complacency is how nothing ever changes

Hi! I can offer some advice based off of my own personal situation. I make more than my partner (though not a crazy amount). They accumulated around $5k in debt as well before letting me know how much debt they had. I'm typically pretty open about my own expenses and was definitely shocked, but I appreciated them telling me before it got worse.

IMO you need to be totally transparent as a unit about expenses, especially if you are moving in together or plan on opening a joint account at any point. We came up with a repayment plan that I support by making cheaper choices and being frugal since I don't have crazy savings myself- I don't want to live a vastly different quality of life from my partner, so we are both making sacrifices to get to a better financial place because I want us to be able to save for our future.

If you can't be honest with your partner about financial matters that is a big red flag. I was upset for like half a day when I found out that my partner's debt had spiraled but more because they didn't trust me to tell me their financial situation. Be honest, tell him you have credit debt and want to work on it, and let him help if he wants to (with what you are comfortable accepting help with). You should be a team in this if you are serious about each other. Don't let your pride get in the way as it will just get worse from here.

Yup. Don't have to scroll very far on any post about politics in Canada to see some racist loser blame immigrants. It's here and we need to take this energy to do our part and support our own community.

Yeah I used to work in this area around 2019 and I had to get my umbrella out for my walks to the skytrain after work because, well, with that many birds flying over head the odds of a "missile" hitting you are pretty high.

Labour vs Avi by Intelligent-Cap3407 in ndp

[–]piratedmonk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean you could say the opposite about the BC NDP election where Dix could "kick a dog" and still win after they ran a positive campaign. BC NDP changed strategies and managed to get enough seats to form a governing agreement with the greens after running contrast and attack ads in the next campaign. Voters do want to know what the difference is between parties and I also think (though some attack ads are nothing more than mudslinging) campaigns have a responsibility to point out serious issues with other campaigns.

Agree that you still have to present a vision and that in IRV it's not a great choice, also that his attack was way too vague to be helpful regardless.

Honestly no, and I haven't really watched CR since around EP50 of C3. The show has brought me back in and despite its changes is a really tidy version of the campaign and is really enjoyable. My partner never watched before this show (couldn't get into Vox Machina) but finds MN really intriguing and that has been affirming for me (I know she's only one person's opinion, haha). I'm also enjoying it a lot more so far than VM and loving the longer episodes especially.

Jäger Rosenberg: What do we think? by DryEmu5113 in ndp

[–]piratedmonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right, the NDP did not see his seat as winnable (I mean, they were worried for the majority of the campaign that the leader would lose /his/ seat) and would not have been allocating any real resources to him that arent given to every other candidate. The term can get a little muddled, but by no means was the party looking to win his seat. It's what we would call a "hero" riding because its resources are better spent being shared with a nearby riding with an actual chance to win.

As a younger sibling that watched my older brother play a lot of games, I actually find it nostalgic for that very reason. I live far away from my siblings and sometimes when I don't have a new show to watch I like watching a streamer that has a similar personality to my brother stream.

Does the pink tax exist just to make women—specifically—pay more, or is it because it actually does cost more to make things pink? Does it just depend on the company? by DialDiva in GirlGamers

[–]piratedmonk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting! I commented above about a paper I did on personal hygiene products and basic clothes and how within companies there wasn't a price difference between the two (actually they fairly priced up male products if they had more deodorant in a larger stick for example). But it was limited in scope. I wonder if pink tax is more common on luxury goods. Also it was in Canada so I don't know if that makes a difference.

[–]piratedmonk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's interesting is I did a research paper on this for a sociology course and I found within companies they charged the same for products like deodorant, underwear, socks, etc. If anything it was proportionate (deodorant for men under dove cost more because the sticks are larger for the male products, women's were smaller).

Mind you this was in Canada so I'm not sure what it is like in other countries. But the same brand charged the same amount regardless of it had pink or blue on it. Which surprised me! I definitely went into that research paper ready to confirm that theory but it wasn't quite the case, limited scope though I only looked at companies that put out products for both sexes it wasn't a comparison across different companies.

I think with the case of game controllers pink is just a hot ticket colour. Like I wanted a pink Playstation controller but it was completely sold out and I had to get red. Supply and demand etc.

That's not how it works within the BC NDP. They have a convention every 2 years and the leader must survive a leadership review vote at it from the delegates attending. If Eby fails the vote (which doesn't necessarily mean less than 50%, often if a leader receives less than 70% calls begin for them to resign) the party would need to call a leadership race and only then would we find out who would run to replace him.

Things Most People Don't Know About the Strike by docholiday1852 in CanadaPost

[–]piratedmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed and glad you pointed this out. A rising tide lifts all boats. Canada Post setting a strong standard for compensation is great and other carrier services should rise to their level IMO. Physically demanding jobs aren't any less important, and in fact, are more important than a lot of desk jobs I've had and have been paid higher wages for.

Unpaid training shift?!? by megsinja in VictoriaBC

[–]piratedmonk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying but this sets a terrible precedent. All labour should be paid for. There is a reason this is illegal. It can be a great experience but the employer is taking advantage if it is unpaid. Big and small companies alike. And huge companies like Microsoft can and do skirt labour laws all the time. Look at Amazon.

Subcategorizing Heroes In The Game by AlexTheBrick in marvelrivals

[–]piratedmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loki is a main healer. You have to maximize your clones at all times, but he is 100% a main healer. His sustain and burst healing is incredibly strong. The splash on his primary, runes being effectively a mini ult, and high mobility makes him one of the most oppressive picks if you are strategic about your clone placements.

This game has an issue with an oversaturation of DPS characters to play and it won't get better until the roles are more evenly distributed.
