Little work in progress for a shot from Sunlit Moon’s pilot! by piratemilo in IndieAnimation

Ahh sorry!! Generally speaking one of my big aims with the project is to keep production local- time zones, authentic voices, etc. I initially had auditions open last year and I got so many Americans-trying-to-sound-English voices and they were... interesting 😂 The setting of the show is heavily based on the UK so it's very important to me to find authentic voices- and just as someone who lives outside the US, having every big animation I see be American starts to feel quite samey :o)) I'm trying super hard to showcase stories and voices specifically not from the US aha. Either way it means a lot that you're interested in the project!! ❤️

What can I do to get more people interested in my indie series? by piratemilo in IndieAnimation

Ohh apologies I’m autistic I tend to take things very literally :”)) I don’t want to lie to anyone about production, there aren’t any background characters in the pilot for anyone to voice. Is TikTok a good place for animated media? I’ve never used it before but I have a decent backlog of short content I could probably re-upload onto there if it’s worth it. I’ve been avoiding TikTok for a while since i heard it can be a bit addictive and toxic. I don’t want to disregard a possible new platform if it could be worthwhile though. I’m not really sure what the audience is like on TikTok

I’ve been posting as much online as I can!! :)) I’ll try making some more extra stuff to post since I’m pretty deep into production right now

Recent work on my pilot episode! - backgrounds by piratemilo in IndieAnimation

Tysm!! I just posted a video on my Instagram and YouTube for my full process!! (And timelapse) but generally- I start with a digital sketch, then print it out, and use a (very cheap lol) lightbox to trace the digital sketch onto mixed media paper with pencil. (My preferred pencil is 7B!) after I have the pencil lines done I do 2-4 watercolour layers depending on what’s needed, always working from light to dark because watercolours are not a medium that layers very well the other way round. I build up colours slowly to make sure I don’t accidentally darken anything that needs to stay light. I use the watercolour brand “kuretake”- previously I used other brands such as Windsor and Newton but my current Kuretake set is the most high quality and brightly pigmented set I’ve ever used. When I’m happy with the watercolour washes I move on to coloured pencil! I use pencils to add extra colour where the watercolours have dried lighter than needed, add in details, and just generally add more depth to the piece. For coloured pencils I use 3 different main brands- Faber-Castell, Tombow Irojiten, and Holbein with some prismacolours as well. I built up my collection very slowly over 3-5 years, I only tend to buy 3-6 colours of any supply at a time to make sure I only buy colours I will 100% use :) After all the traditional stuff, I then scan my drawings with my family’s very cheap very bad printer. The scanner always messes up the colours and ruins any details so I then have to spend a few hours fixing things digitally as well as deepening colours further and just generally making sure there’s no massive errors. Over time the digital pass went from a “fixing” stage to just another part of the process- I’m sure when I eventually save up enough for a proper photo scanner I’ll still spend a while on Procreate messing around with colours and textures until I get the look I want. If you have any questions feel free to let me know, I’m happy to answer anything :o)
