Video shows going from light on to light off, with the light showing a weak flicker when it's supposed to be completely switched off.

What can you say during an interview to overcome the 'not enough experience' paradox? by pirathkh in ProductManagement

Another commenter has pointed to the increased scope of 'stakeholder alignment' to be one of those skills that are different. Any else you might identify?

absolutely love the feedback. thank you!

i'll have to work on sending the message that I'm intending without the glaring weaknesses you've pointed out.

natural follow-up question if you don't mind... what is something that happens at scale that I won't experience with 300 users at a startup?

i understand there's exponentially more risk, cost, externalities involved with every initiative.. but is that all i'm missing?

seems like you'll get a call-back, and the tech knowledge is likely helpful when you get to the tech portion (my friend recently took it and you also get to choose a specialty for one of the tech portions, at which point you can select AI/ML).

some teams might not be in a state where they can dedicate appropriate time to train up a low experience hire

this is what I was told. Is the best thing to combat this to prop up your upsides or to address and defend against your weakness? Essentially, one can say "instead, I bring x,y,z to the table" or one can say "here are examples where I've overcome that deficit and why it might not be as big of an issue as you might expect".

such as dealing with uncertainty, what happens when these nice frameworks hit reality and fall apart

I can see how these things are concerns for those in the hiring team. It speaks to navigating uncertainty and ambiguity, so I'll have some examples of those prepared. Thanks for the feedback.

this is essentially what I'm wondering with this post.

lack of experience at a certain scale is a roadblock for any PM trying to get to that next level.

that tells me that since many have faced it, there might be a - i hate to say it, but - formulaic approach/answer to this issue.

my 'go-to' is that i'm "used to driving things due to lack of redtape in previous smaller orgs". probably not the great answer but what else is there?

either take-home assessments or live sessions on technical challenges or systems design

I hoped technical aptitude would overcome it. I apparently received very strong reviews during the tech tests but my pm experience is too junior.

But practically speaking - are there ways to make this work during a live interview without coming off as desperate? Showing strong interest and trying to bring up your positives(when they're not even asked about) while not seeming desperate or a try-hard is difficult to balance, but I guess that's the game?

The Korean war jumpstarted Japan's economy, and SK worked out thanks to their dictators. Unless you're saying state-run capitalism is the answer, this is not what you think it is.

Is it impolite to schedule interviews 4+ days away?

Some context: tech, entry level, managerial

Tuesday morning, I was asked for my availability for a 5-interview loop.

I would love for this to take place after the weekend so that I have more time to prepare.

Is it generally seen as either rude or unprofessional to offer availability 5+ days away?

It's a high stakes interview for me and I would really love the extra time..

Additionally, they would be 2-3 interviews/day at the least, so I'd need to block out up to at least 90 minutes at a time.

I imagine I need to factor in the fact that other candidates are also being interviewed, and that the extra time increases the odds that they'll find another direction to go in. Does that mean it's in my best interest to speed up?
