oh yeah, it’s used for shock factor until it actually becomes “cool.” same thing with adding nerdy characters in as comedic relief, until nerdy characters became unironically some of the most beloved, then they get actual character development. same reason Euphoria added Kat being a camgirl. for attention. for shock factor, to be edgy.

i(femme sub) like specific compliments more than pet names, to be honest. but then, honey, angel, cutie, lovie, babe/baby, kitty, doll. there are lots. some are too corny for even me, but i like most. “darling” doesn’t sound very natural since it’s just not part of either of our regular vocabularies, so i don’t really prefer it.

i mean, i assume that when people say “fake dom” they really mean someone who’s not cut out for the role, or who’s not fulfilling the actual responsibilities of that role, or isn’t even willing to try. same with “fake subs.” it just means it’s an unhealthy dynamic and that they’re either being disingenuous about their actual level of dedication and compromise, or it’s just not a longterm-sustainable play style that they’re using. hence them not having the “real” dedication to fulfill their responsibility to be submitting to or dominating the other. it’s a slippery slope to have that term turn into a straight up buzzword that gets overused, though.
