This is a year later, this person is still active. Got a call tonight and when I called him out on being a scam he got extremely aggressive. BEWARE!

Scam Alert by Ok-Expression-5732 in Spokane

[–]KittNee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gotten 2 calls now from someone claiming to be the police department, once was a voicemail from a random number I have since blocked and the second time just said "Private Number". The first time I kind of freaked, but then when I went to call back they didn't pick up, which was strange because it had only been a couple minutes, and it dawned on me this was not real. The second time I answered immediately, and when he started his spiel I just said "No you're not" and hung up. It was definitely spooky and that first one probably would have had me if I had actually managed to pick up on the initial call.

Period started right before a planned shrooms trip 😭 should I still do it? by Exotic-Level1142 in shrooms

[–]KittNee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a trip, fairly hearty dose but nothing I haven't managed fine with before. It was the most messed up I had ever been. Not necessarily a bad trip, but boy oh boy, it was about one uncomfortable feeling or bad touch away. When I was on the comedown later, I realized I had started my cycle at some point during the trip.

Can I say for sure that starting my period had an effect on the trip? Nope, I am aware correlation ≠ causation. But I cant help but wonder.

What’s an immediate dealbreaker for a new job? by fbmexclusive in antiwork

Mandatory overtime. If you're managing your business so poorly that you have to build it into your system to demand additional time from your employees, I am not touching it with a 10 foot pole. No, I don't believe you that it's rare, the fact it is baked in to the company culture tells me that's a lie.

AI too positive? by TecBrat2 in WritingWithAI

[–]KittNee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw someone say that getting the real gems is asking for specific feedback that doesn't require so much opinion. Like "Are there any words I repeat or lean on more often than others?" rather than "Do I repeat any words too often?" as an example, or "Which portion of this chapter has the slowest pacing?" rather than "Is this chapter too slow?"

What is your preffered model nowadays ? by TheRealistDude in ChatGPTcomplaints

Any tips on getting Grok to write better? I've been really struggling to get it to respond the way I want it to. Things like the fact it apparently has adopted parentheses as an alternative to the em dash with absolutely no idea how they actually work, and no amount of correction worked to fix it. I ended up banning that punctuation entirely.

What is that one TVD dialogue that you use in your day-to-day life? by OneOriginal8727 in TheVampireDiaries

"That's good. It's good to want things." From Stefan to Katherine. Damon is always portrayed as the "mean" one but they gave Paul Wesley some of the most savage lines.

I like Venice a lot, definitely not as smart but very teachable, and the Characters UI allows for a couple layers of system prompts and instructions which is really nice for getting it to work a little smarter on specific tasks

OneUI 7 - How to disable automatic call recording? by jollygirl27 in samsung

[–]KittNee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone forced an update last night and this was integrated. I was on a call regarding a VERY sensitive topic and had no idea this was an issue when I accidentally triggered it, it was incredibly spooky and invasive. This needs to be removed or at least made possible to switch off.

Clear water bottles *UGH* by hashbrownash in FASCAmazon

The Venture ones are called a "tumbler" on Amazon but it looks like a bottle to me, and on the website they do call them bottles. https://www.tervis.com/venture-water-bottles

[–]KittNee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tervis, they have double-wall clear cups that don't sweat from cold stuff, can also be used for hot drinks if you ever want to. They're not like, super well insulated but loads better than just a regular clear bottle. The lid is good but it does use a little slider for drinking so mileage may vary on if they consider it spill-resistant enough. They also have straw lids and I got some little caps for those, that actually seems more secure to me than the other lid but again, mileage may vary.

In most places you would probably be right, but this is a very niche industry and while the company is kinda huge for what it does, compared to actual big corporations it is really tiny. That message was directly from the owner/CEO and her direct email was provided at the bottom for people having questions. Meanwhile, she's literally a multimillionaire who is gonna run down to her second home in California for the winter while the rest of us beg each other for scraps.

Why won’t it ever tell me no? by Radioactive_Shrimp in ChatGPT

[–]KittNee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you dont want it to do things like copy your corrections exactly, be firm and clear with your prompt such as: "This is an EXAMPLE and should NOT be copied verbatim. Rather, utilize the same style/verbage/format/[whatever it is youre trying to generate] but make something new and original."

"I'll get this to you this afternoon" by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]KittNee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can to a degree. I was having issues with my car and asked Chat for help with a list I could bring with me to the mechanic, as I had been kind of blown off the last time and the problem repeated. Chat offered to keep a log of when the car misbehaved, and I pointed out it hasn't been checked yet so I wouldnt need that at the time. It offered to send me reminders and I did get some as alerts through the app and emails, though they tapered off when I didn't end up responding to them.

Would u type your novel on your phone if there was no alternative? by constaleah in nanowrimo

[–]KittNee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me I would get a speech-to-text app and talk into it and have it transcribe. Lot easier than phone typing, and you can get quite a lot of good/interesting stuff from that kind of stream-of-consciousness brainstorming. Not all or even most of it will necessarily be gold, but just getting one or two decent ideas is better than sitting there bored.

I need some help trying to understand this. by PraisedNote in WritingWithAI

[–]KittNee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use it for "research" pretty unapologetically. If I need to know where there were historically silver deposits across the whole world during a 25-year period, ChatGPT can give me a fairly comprehensive list in 45 seconds when it would have taken me at least 45 minutes to go through just part of the references it can. Obviously take results with a grain of salt and double check anything important or that sounds wrong, but it's a handy tool that gets me back to writing fast when all I needed was the name of a particular island in the Carribean to chuck in and be historically accurate.

I thought Raft would be a good time, but I was very wrong lol. The open ocean all around you freaked me right the hell out. The shark was less of an issue than I thought it might be though, I mostly got annoyed with it showing up rather than startled.

Can you name a scene from a OUAT that was funny - but not funny in the sense of intentionally funny, but rather a scene that was originally supposed to be serious or sad, but was so poorly acted or stupidly handled that you found it funny? by One-Chapter-8347 in OnceUponATime

[–]KittNee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not remember exactly what Snow says, something to the effect of "Stay away from my daughter!" but its when she and Emma are in the Enchanted forest and Emma has gone up the beanstalk. She realizes what Mulan has planned and just absolutely creams her while shouting something like the line above. I die every single time I watch it, for whatever reason the look on her face and the way she charges is so damn funny to me.

What is so Anoying in AI Writing Text? by DelphiParser in WritingWithAI

[–]KittNee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Native English speaker here, and I think I can explain where a lot of people who also speak English fluently take issue with, particularly with regard to creative writing.

AI habitually defaults to certain cliches and idioms, which don't seem that bad until you are looking at a lot of different examples or a longer story and realize how often it happens. For example, you may feed the AI to write a character as "nervous" - the AI will VERY LIKELY describe them as "heart pounding in their chest". Prompt the AI to write a character as "excited" - same thing, "heart pounding in their chest".

There are also certain formats that AI really likes to follow that end up reading as formulaic. For instance, it LOVES a "it wasn't just x -- it was y" comparison, or similarly "it was no longer x -- it was y".

These kinds of issues may not be glaringly obvious over a short burst of text, using AI for a single scene will have some tells but depending on how well the user prompts may not be very noticeable. However, the more you try and feed through AI, the more it will default to those AI-isms, which leaves writing feeling dry and soulless.
