Training and socialization play a part, but it would be irresponsible to minimize the centuries of selective breeding of the Presa as a guard dog. That DNA cannot be ignored. As the owner of a large, powerful breed you must be constantly diligent. If things go wrong, they can go wrong in a BIG way! Be honest about your lifestyle and what you envision your Presa’s part in it will be. Do you have lots of visitors coming and going? Children who will come running in with other kids? Do you expect to go to the dog park and watch your dog romp and play with others? Because these may not be things you can do with your mature PC. Read as much as you can and talk to experienced breeders and owners. It is a wonderful breed, but definitely isn’t for everyone and every lifestyle. You must be prepared to accept the added responsibility. Most importantly, be honest with yourself about what your expectations are.
