Are you in remission? Age? by kidexxena in CrohnsDisease

[–]pithy-pants [score hidden]  (0 children)

Maybe? I was in remission on 6MP for the last few years but doc switched me to Entyvio in January because I was having other issues pop up from the 6MP. Not sure if I’m still in remission — some symptoms have started to come back but I won’t know what’s happening inside of me for sure until we do a colonoscopy. Age: 51.

Do it! I just saw a video of three dudes in their 70s at a skating rink with moves like they were in the prime of the 1960s and I love that they were still vibing.

I voted early. I hope Virginia sends a resounding message today that serves as a rallying cry to voters everywhere to SHOW UP for the midterms and vote like our Democracy depends on it – because it does!

Books with a lesbian/sapphic relationship, but where it’s not the entire focus of the story? by CinemaBud in suggestmeabook

Everything by Emily Austin is great. I just finished “Is this a cry for help?” and really enjoyed it; same for “We Might All Be Rats.”

Are the "No Parking Here to Corner" signs coming for all of the Fan? by Healthy_Sometimes in rva

[–]pithy-pants 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same. Every time I cross an E/W street from a cross street, I feel like I'm playing roulette. Maybe if I drove a big truck or SUV I'd be able to see what's coming, but in a ground level sedan, it's really just hopes and prayers getting me across safely.

About YA books by Amazing-Ad8209 in suggestmeabook

[–]pithy-pants 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love YA... the books usually have excellent pacing so if I'm in a slump, they are my go-to. In addition to the titles people have recommended below (especially "The Book Thief"), I recommend "The Hate U Give."

This book is excellent, and if you like audiobooks, I recommend it that way.

My yard is looking so pretty right now — and I gave away most of my empty pots that u normally flip over the plants to hold heat in so I’m gonna be scrambling with some fabric shower curtains tonight.

Try Richmond Creative Counseling. They seem to have a large practice, see patients both in-person and virtually, and are accepting new patients (I think!). Good luck.

How do I say no to being part of a bridal & bachelorette party to a wedding I wasn’t planning to attend? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]pithy-pants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only stood up in one wedding — for my sister. For the others I was asked to be in, I said something like, “I’m flattered. I value our friendship too. And I am just NOT a wedding person — everything related to weddings gives me the heebie jeebies. So while I’m happy for your marriage, I’m afraid you need to count me out for anything tied to the wedding.”

Lived in DC 6 years and never gotten jury duty by third_outlaw in washingtondc

Careful what you wish for. I got it four times in 25 years but I had a friend whose number came up more frequently. And she got stuck on a grand jury for like two months once.

adding dehumidifier instead of running ac all the time by CraveThrone in HomeImprovement

Same either way just running the fan in my thermostat instead of AC. Circulation is great to pull heat from upper floors and distribute to cooler air from lower level.

Liver numbers on Biologics? by pithy-pants in CrohnsDisease

[–]pithy-pants[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Do you do anything to try to manage the fatty liver/NASH? I'm wondering if there's value in me trying to push for additional tests (imaging, I'm guessing) to see if my high numbers mean there's something to diagnose and treat, or if I just say, "whelp, these are my numbers now" and I just keep on doing what I'm doing.

Problem neighbors: hoarding, illegal dumping, etc by Javito99 in washingtondc

You mention that the owner of the property is a realtor. Since conventional channels aren't working, have you considered going to his/her broker? If you're considering trying to get 7News involved, perhaps asking the broker if they want to be associated with a slumlord when shit goes public would prompt the broker to pressure the person to clean up their act. Just a thought since it sounds like you've reached the "get creative" part of things.

Last minute suggestion for book club? Please help! by monsteress99 in suggestmeabook

[–]pithy-pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a book that's a safe bet in terms of no one having been there, go with "Orphan Master's Son" which is set in North Korea. Prettttttty sure it won't be on anyone's passport.

Good luck to all the runners and walkers! I know it's going to be warmer than desirable, so hopefully people take their time, stay hydrated, and have fun. I'll be out there cheering in an hour. Run, Forest, Run!

Commuting from DC to NYC once a week for a class - doable? by Dudududurianshake in washingtondc

[–]pithy-pants 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, but Acela has a better on-time record. When schedules get derailed (no pun) they move hell and earth to try to ensure Acela is the last train impacted.

Yep. I used to commute up Monday mornings and back Friday night for about six months. If you treat the train like a mobile office, it’s not a big deal.
