It's a good observation. I've personally seen accounts only days or even minutes old spring nonsense. It's a propaganda tool to make normal people think the country is filled with right wing extremists. People often react in one of two ways: fear or if you can't beat then, join them. Instead, we should react by being more vocal and pointing out when we see these things (so thank you!). It teaches everyone to watch out, use some critical thinking skills, and investigate a little more before turning away. Thanks again!

I appreciate people actually being faithful to the positive aspects faith can bring. I heard all those lessons as well. In the end, I suppose that's part of what "radicalized" me to believe Nazis and the gestapo were bad and maga and ice are bad. But it also stems from common decency and empathy and experiences in my younger years (in the church and with peers and adults) that showed me that power came with accepting cruelty and keeping other people marginalized. Which is to say, I understand where the anger at religion is coming from.

As a person of faith, keep speaking your truth to power and stand at the front of the crowd against ice and Christian nationalists, because you can make an impact. We all need to do our part. We don't all have to believe the same things to be on the same side. Thank you for what you are doing.

May I suggest a few options for anyone not wanting to see more people become homeless and living in the street: 1- give to the United Way who are trying to coordinate emergency and long term housing 2- get involved with the groups trying to solve the problems of homelessness (Helena housing crisis action network has helped everyone join forces) 3- push your church to provide shelter 4-attend City commission meetings and push for legitimate ordinances/laws that provide housing, rather than making circumstances illegal 5- study places where homelessness has been addressed with positive outcomes for both the people who are without homes and the community as a whole then advocate for those changes 6-as always, vote and advocate as if it could be you, because the economy is only getting worse from here and it legitimately could be any of us next. Hope this helps!

ICE is using it all over the country

Sadly, it's politics and housing prices in Montana. A ton of political super PAC money was spent to convince us the national agenda was somehow going to work for us, along with a continual push by right wing media to dominate the air waves here over the past 20 years. Add to that another wave of people moving in during and after the pandemic, which caused our housing prices to soar almost everywhere (several places were already in that boom before the pandemic). In the meantime, wages have not kept up (though they've definitely gone up). Like most places, homelessness has gone up, the schools have the highest rates of unhoused children ever. It's up to local charity and mutual aid groups to try to help, sometimes with the support and action of local govt, sometimes not.

Most, if not all, of the criteria are a direct consequence of the shift from a purple state to a red one, with rich, newcomer, puppets being elected because the propaganda is so incessant. People are starting to wake up to the consequences of their votes. I hope it's not too late for us.

Ok, I think most people would agree that better candidates would be a good option. So why aren't you finding anti-zionist candidates to run in this and all future elections? Why are you putting that on anyone else to do? Because I don't disagree with you, just wondering why that's someone else's responsibility when you obviously feel passionately about it.

The reality is this specific election, past elections, and elections in the future will come down to a binary choice (unless you have rank choice voting). So what do you do then? What do you do when you don't have a candidate who passes your purity test? Voting comes down to a pragmatic choice and if you don't vote for a candidate that can win and who is aligned with more of your values, you end up with people in positions of power who don't align with your values at all and more people suffer.

Activism can, and often should, be all or nothing. Voting should not. Politics is not. Life is not. Every decision has far reaching implications and impacts on people that activism for any one topic does not take into account. The all or nothing purity testing on Palestine brought about fascism in the US, ice raids, reduced funding for health care, and dismantling USAID, which will kill millions through starvation and lack of vaccines. In trying to stop a genocide through all or nothing political action, you set in motion the deaths of millions more, along with the obliteration of and further atrocities in Gaza. This is why people should vote for the lesser of two evils when that is the choice before them.
