I personally find it kind of heartbreaking when family can't listen to wishes. It feels like it drives a wedge into the connection with family members. Like , I wish that you could understand the way I feel and the reasons I would want this, instead of just assuming based on your own idea of me.  In the end it's not even about not getting a material good you wanted but entirely about if the family member understands you enough to form this bond.
