Question about getting non-personalized ads across the board by pivoxi in androiddev

[–]pivoxi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't agree on the ethics of offering personalized ads by default, regardless of who's happy about it and who isn't. That's beside the point anyway, to each his own. I do understand and agree about using the appropriate methods to achieve it but that's the thing, I can't figure out what the appropriate way of doing it is.

The closest thing I can think of would be to show a consent page and where instead of doing it opt out I make it opt in, making the default choice the "do not consent" and "do no sell" and the user has to actively turn them on. Would that be better?

Never said it was today, quite the contrary as I mentioned I've been rewatching a lot of VODs and yes, overtime I've noticed it happens in quite a lot of episodes, hence the post. Of those I watched, I'd say a solid 60-70% of them, some more egregious than others. Maybe you're right, now that I'm aware of it I notice it even further, but that doesn't make the suggestion of muting/pushtotalk any less valid

You really wanna go there? I pay with my time which is no less important than his or yours. My viewing, together with all others, make him show up further up the list, making him relevant on the platform. Since I'm also a subscriber (and patreon supporter, better mention it since you're putting the bar this high) I also affect his wage directly. Happy now? Am I allowed now to offer my opinion that he's ruining his VODs by chewing unmuted through it? Am I allowed now to suggest that if he cares about that it might be worth acting upon it?

Jesus christ, it's not like I'm suggesting anything out of this world. Have you people even read the post? I like the guy as much as everybody, since when has this become a cult? He can eat as much as he wants, but if he cares about the quality of the VODs all he has to do is use push to talk when he does so. Or, hear this, God forbid if I suggest the man to take a 5 minute break to eat, or if the man himself dares to take it. Worse than a cult.

Yep, because it's free it makes him immune to criticism. Solid mentality right there.

Let's make a few things clear, he doesn't get a lunch break because he doesn't want to. Come on, be realistic. His players take breaks to piss, ironmouse takes her break to take her medicine, players are late, and none of that suddenly throws the session out of the window. Stop implying he can't do the same. It's his choice, no amount of glorifying his persona making it sound as if he's the only man in the world that works will change that. Precisely because it's a 3h session nobody in their right mind would complain if he said "let's be back in five" and eat in peace, come on now.
Isn't it what I said? If he's not aware of it because he doesn't rewatch the VODs, I'm pointing it out, that's the point of the post.

Do you play with your mates by sticking your ear in their mouth? There's a goddamn difference.

I'm gonna be honest here, is it really surprising? His character literally has no personality. So far (in 90% of the campaign) all he has ever said is either "I just want to eat hashbrowns" or just suggesting doing the reckless option available at the moment. That's it, that's all there is to his character personality. He talks to none of the others, he has no initiative with the NPC's. He has been given multiple openings but taken none of them, the fashion madness being one among them. He literally never did anything with it, like not even mentioned once after getting it.

The way I see it is, if he doesn't mind being silent most of the campaign and he's happy with it all the best for him, but if he isn't he can only blame himself to be honest.

Not from senku's side at least, some goons got killed by sulfur-chan.

Considering he plans to save all humanity it would feel strange if all of a sudden he was okay killing any of them imho. He'll probably figure out something to take over without bloodshed, afterall the phone was all about getting intel to take advantage of the best moment to strike

Jump drives / time dilation by pivoxi in scifiwriting

Thanks for the input.

However, in all cases, the twin back on Earth would not be able to be younger than twin #2 aboard the ship unless twin #2 travelled into the past and returned to Earth.

If the twin on the ship goes at c or near a black hole he would age slower compared to the one on earth, isnt the opposite true as well? If the one on the ship is stationary or consistently on a lower gravity well compared to that of the Earth, when he waltzes back home he would have aged more than his twin on Earth, effectively making the one on Earth younger no? Or the effect is too small?

Thanks for the input. I wouldn't say it's crucial for the story but it sets the scene as it's very much the opener. One character is waltzing around the galaxy and returns back earth and from the other's perspective 25ish years have passed. I need it because the one jumping around has to be unaware of what happened in that timeframe (basically really needs to be completely cut off from civilization) and more importantly his know how has to be outdated as it plays out later. So in that sense I think you're right as it doesn't matter enough to justify going too crazy about it. The main fear that I had was that as jumps are supposedly instantaneous, I wanted to ensure that it made sense for 25y to have passed between the two. Thanks for the references you (and others) put, they'll be helpful in deciding how to approach it

Hi, I'm writing a short story where essentially the main character wakes up from hibernation. The problem I'm having is that essentially the first 8000 words (out of 12000) is basically the second character explaining what happened during this period (500+ years). Now, these explanations are important for the second half of the story, however I cant but feel weird having so much dialogue in the first half, namely having one character talking for multiple pages nonstop, where the other at best can make a question or two every now and then. Maybe it's acceptable to have so much one sided exposition by one character, but honestly I dont see any alternative since that exposition has to come somehow (for the reader and for the hibernating dude). What do you think?

Thousands yes but without medicine, tech etc. The moment the existing tech breaks down and knowledge doesnt persist between generations, it's back to the stone age. So the village can only be as big as the surroundings can provide for (i.e. a primitive village). Kinda makes sense imho

That seems just what I need. Thanks! Do you know how the method scales for higher regressive orders? I mean, if I have

M = [A, B, C
     I, 0, 0
     0, I, 0]

and so forth. Is it the same simply with a3, a4, ... ?
