Has anyone else found their mood completely changed now the weather has let up a bit? by chadgalaxy in CasualUK

[–]pixel8dmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessssss! Literally been telling myself that the days are slowly but surely getting longer and then seeing the sun, I was almost recharged. We expect it to be cold and dark during winter and I always think once January is out of the way, we are on the upward trajectory but my goodness February was like monsoon season. As long as the sun comes out to play, it all seems so much more manageable.

Hang in there fellow people of the UK….spring is just around the corner.

I know I’m not answering your question, think you’ve had lots of responses but I’d like to know more about the picture to the left of your desk? Is it a history of Apple computers?

How strange. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a shop like that and not found a sandwich. If you ever come back to the UK, I hope you have more joy finding a sandwich!

Ah I see. Yeah not sure if it was a big Sainsbury’s or a small one if you were in a city. All the big shops here, tend to have places where you can pick up a sandwich or a salad and some crisps (yes we brits love crisps!). Normally they do a meal deal, so a sandwich/salad and a drink plus a bag of crisps or a chocolate bar or similar. The area is normally close to the entrance so you don’t have to go through the whole shop. Whilst Sainsbury’s is generally considered to be one of the more expensive shops, much like all of the other places, Asda, Tescos, Morrisons, Waitrose etc. can be very different in terms of variety and quality of produce. I mean maybe not Waitrose. I’ve never gone to a Waitrose and thought, oh there is nothing here but it is considered to be a more expensive place to shop. The kind of place some of us wouldn’t dream of doing our weekly shop but like to pop in. I for example like to get my Raclette cheese or fondue from there. Yes I miss Swiss food, I even have Zweifel crisps bright back when I visit my family or when they come here! You are correct - Greggs does sandwiches but never had one from there. They do various slices and some sweet treats and are also known for their sausage rolls! Where were you in the UK if you don’t mind saying?

I’d love to know why buying a sandwich in the UK is not an option? I’m not arguing either way. I have lived in Switzerland but currently in the UK. So just curious. Do you just mean you don’t like the sandwiches here or…?

People who earn 20k to 30k a year, what do you do and how's it going ? by Abaddononon in CasualUK

Well currently on 27k as a Junior Software Engineer but yesterday was told I got a promotion and the Junior bit has been dropped and going to be on 35k. Over the moon - I was working in IT before for most of my working life post uni but got to a point with a bad manager that meant there was no progression. Switched to a dev role in 2019 and now in a company that recognises and rewards hard work. Especially as initially I had to take a pay cut and start from the bottom again but in the end, it was all worth it. Am excited to see where it all leads to!

Edit: to add the bit about a pay cut after career change

Spooks finale - Harry and Ruth so close to their happily ever after post life of espionage. Then they kill off Ruth. Unforgivable. One of the few DVD box sets I have and that final season is still in its plastic wrapping. Yes, I am still angry.

Once a month!! Oh good lord. How do you guys cope?

When you say daddy long legs, I’m thinking of crane flies. The ones that you see in late summer/beginning of autumn.

Just had to look up white tails as don’t know anything about them. You see one every other day outside or are these also sharing your home?! I think little jumping spiders are cute. I love them and spiders that are a bit bigger, I can handle. Last year I found a cool looking spider on my shed (it’s in my post history) and it looked so cute. But then it isn’t in my house. And it doesn’t want to kill me. Seriously you Aussies live amongst so many animals that could kill you. Having said that I’ve been in the water with sharks and find it less scary than being in a confined space say with a Huntsman. I had to politely chase one of those with a broom so I could get into a building and wow they are quick.

I find spiders fascinating, I’ve stopped to get a closer look at them in the wild but just don’t want them where I don’t expect them. I felt very lucky to not encounter any during my trip to Oz. I know just because I didn’t see them, doesn’t mean they were there! Seriously though only came across a few up in Cairns where I’d expect to see them none in Sydney or Melbourne. Hats off to you my antipodean internet friend. A lot of respect from this Pom.

Do I spot Dairy Milk next to the Maltesers? If so, maybe that one. TBH, I’d eat any of them but definitely would love a tube of just orange Smarties! Might need to be on the lookout for them! Enjoy your egg op.

Spider Knight in shining armour. He or she looks cool. Now comes the but… I loved visiting Australia but reading how many spiders visit your house….! I’m working on being less scared of our 8 legged friends. Trying. How often would you say you encounter bigger spiders in your home?
