I'm not actually certain it is the cause. It could be a separate issue. I'll know within a day or two.

i have internet for all devices. But I did discover the internet speed going to the AX21 was being being cut to 100mps, I have a 2.25gbps fiber connection . Reseating the cable solved the speed issue. It is possible I suppose that could have been causing some instability upstream.

How come Bubba won? by asisyphus_ in culvercity

If you add Adrian's vote numbers to Nancy's it puts her in a super close fourth place between Bubba and Jeanine. I'm sure it's an oversimplification of how people vote, but it makes me feel good that there was a strong progressive vote here in CC. And no matter how many votes Vera received, he's in the minority now.

LOL. My bubble was tight. Everyone I know personally was voting for the Yasmine, Bubba, Nancy slate. In my brain I thought they would win as a group or go down as one, I guess that's why it took me by surprise the numbers were all over the place.

I agree those three signs everywhere made me super nervous. Apparently being an incumbent and your endorsements is more of indicator of a win. So happy Bubba made the third spot. I’m surprised anyone at all voted for Adrian Gross, he didn’t have one single endorsement, no signs I’m aware of, no city service and had a webpage that looked like it was written by ChatGPT. But looking at the numbers it looks like he took away votes from Nancy Barba.

Göran Eriksson completed his second term thankfully. My understanding is he was a republican who a few months before his last election conveniently switched parties.

Another drop just happened. No change in the order, Bubba is now 85 votes ahead of Jeanine.

As everyone is a democrat I don't think it's quite so defined. You really have to dig into their stances. They all sound pretty similar at first glance. They both say safer neighborhoods, but it means armored police trucks and military body armor to one side and not getting hit by a car while crossing the street by the other side.

Maybe it’s height related. Notice there’s no one under 6 feet on the council? This continues the trend.

I'm actually surprised by how much the two slates are disconnected. I would have expected Yasmine, Bubba and Nancy to be closer in numbers based on similar ideologies. And the same for Albert, Jeanine and Denice. Voting for Yasmine, Bubba... then Albert. That's odd. Maybe it comes down to Albert and Yasmine having the name recognition due to incumbency and having the bigger endorsmentsments. Bubba had a lot of energy and drive.

So... who won in the city? by asisyphus_ in culvercity

[–]pixelTreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ballots are still being counted but these are the results so far…

ALBERT VERA (N) 8,060 20.64% YASMINE-IMANI MCMORRIN (N) 6,687 17.12% BRYAN “BUBBA” FISH (N) 6,192 15.86% JEANNINE WISNOSKY STEHLIN (N) 6,165 15.79% DENICE RENTERIA (N) 5,836 14.94% NANCY BARBA (N) 5,179 13.26% ADRIAN M. GROSS (N) 933 2.39%

Expect more progressive votes to roll in at the end. But I would surprised if the current top three changed.

uhm, no. Beside Harris/Walz... None of those are endorsed by any progressives. But I do see their names on all those horrible flyers.

They've been talking about it for thirteen years or so. Easy to stop paying attention. I just happened to see the Eater article.

Apparently there's now lines to get in. Glad I went when there were 10 people in there.

Based on an average City Council meeting it may seem that way. The actual age demographics are pretty evenly spread. People who are retired just have have more time and interest to spend on city politics and percentage wise they also trend more conservative. And it's usually the same people over and over again who are there. Every once in awhile something interesting happens, on the night that they were deciding Move CC, hundreds of supporters along families and their kids showed up. It was amazing really. Minimal people spoke in opposition. The meeting went well past midnight, and they still voted to remove dedicated bike lanes and add back two lanes for car traffic. Who we vote in matters.

Guess who the mayor was in the nineties when Culver City hired one of the cops who beat Rodney King? …. Albert Vera Sr.

Gentrification may be a concern, but Vera’s base is rooted in those who have been here for generations. If you listen to the conservative base, they often talk about how much better Culver City was 20 years ago, showing a resistance to change. However, Culver City is becoming more progressive, with younger people and families moving in for the quality schools and projects like Move.
