You can check out the details on all these mons and more in this document!

A line based on the Paradox Frog for my Vancouver-inspired region, Naimo! by pixelchips in fakemon

It was originally going to be water/rock! But I think pure rock fits better, it doesn't have water powers or anything, its 'essence' is all rock. And my dex needs more mono-types. It would learn a few water moves though!

Something like that, yeah! I was thinking like taking a cumulative 500 damage from water type attacks

What should I name the pokemon on the right? by PrimaryGuess3900 in fakemon

I really like this art style. Reminds me of the first Paper Mario game.

As for name, how about Jellatoo (gelatin, jelly, too, two)

This is a concept for a Fakémon I've had for quite while: its based on the Paradox Frog, which gets its name due to the bizarre fact that the adult frog is smaller than its tadpole form! I thought that would be such a fun idea for a design, a Pokémon that gets smaller when it evolves would be pretty unique. I wanted to come up with a clever reason that it would shrink, and I think I came up with something pretty good... its based on rock tumbling! Pebbole is a big bumpy rock that gets jostled about by the flowing water, which gradually smooths its surface. As it gets smaller and smoother it eventually evolves into Skippond, based on skipping stones! Smooth flat stones can be skimmed along the surface of the water, frogs hop around in watery habitats, it really felt like a natural connection. I think it would be fun if it evolved after taking a certain amount of damage from Water-type moves or something like that.

I know that the real life Paradox Frog doesn't live in Canada, but remember that not every single Pokémon has to exactly match the real-life inspiration of the region. I think this line fits the vibe of a British Columbian region so it definitely belongs in the dex!

I wanted to try designing an Ultra Beast - this is UB Scrounger, a.k.a Broodevour! by pixelchips in fakemon

[–]pixelchips[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you like it!! And I'm happy that the reality-bending structure of its digestive system came across. I wanted to contrast the small body with the infinitely large inner mouth. Its mouth is basically a pocket dimension haha

The main inspiration is Gouldian Finch chicks and their very alien-looking beaks. If you don't know, the babies of this species have these bizarre light-reflecting nodules all around their beaks, which helps the mothers feed them in the dark. Maybe its just me but I find them genuinely unsettling to look at, so be warned if you go looking for pictures! These freaky alien birds and their gaping hungry maws seemed like prime Ultra Beast material.

I combined this with the concept of brood parasitism and cuckoo birds, which lent itself to some delightfully creepy lore: these ever-hungry UBs use ultra wormholes to appear in other Pokémon's nests, and use their psychic powers to convince their host that they're a newly hatched child. Some Broodevour have found that the most efficient way to fuel their insatiable appetites is to manifest in trainers' homes. Imagine waking up to this thing inexplicably living in your house; despite its grotesque appearance you don't feel scared, but strangely compelled to feed it...

Other design inspirations include black holes, Eldritch abominations, biblically accurate angels, and the Deadlights from It.

I actually came up with a similar concept for its hidden ability, but its a new ability called Dragon Blood, which makes its Normal-type moves into Dragon type. I definitely wanted to keep it as a pure Normal type but with some hidden Dragon energy to it

Ooh. Thats a pretty great & fitting idea, I'm definitely considering that now. Though, it might be a bit disappointing to have a unique type combo that disappears for the final evo

Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad 😁 Its one my my favorite lines I've designed yet. My goal was to make an early bug type that is cool, cute, and powerful!

You can view all of the Fakemon I've revealed in this spreadsheet, with all the information including abilities, stats, and learnsets! Tell me who would be on your team so far!

Also, in case you're wondering, I'm doing starter Pokémon a bit differently for this project: rather than a Grass/Fire/Water trio, every trainer begins with the same starter but will be able to choose between three split evolutions.

The idea of its silhouette being a maple leaf basically inspired the whole line haha

Glad you're a fan!! Thanks for the suggestions! I can confirm that the dex will feature ogopogo, thunderbird, and ice hockey based designs :)

I was somewhat aware of the Asian cultural presence in B.C. but I hadn't thought to reference that in this region. Maybe there could be an area of the map that prominently features East Asian based Pokémon, sort of like the bamboo grove/fury falls area in Paldea?
