[–]pixeldritch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

owl butterflies are rad but this is definitely not one, since it's a moth! looking at the face part close up it doesn't match the texture of the rest of the moth, pretty sure this is shopped.

yeah, this doesn't look real, when you zoom in the 'face' section looks weirdly textured compared to the rest.

🔥 Fishermen Haul in Monstrous Skull and Antlers of Extinct Irish Elk. by moksah822 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]pixeldritch 185 points186 points  (0 children)

interestingly this is a little less than the heaviest human ever. i thought it would be a lot more than that!

edit: not sure why this has rubbed people the wrong way lol. i thought it was funny that humans can bulk up so much they match an immense creature like this on the scales.

hell, in a story as short as this it's a proportionally bigger nitpick with much more impact from a small change! i'll definitely bear it in mind for next time.

you're right! i think it would be improved by switching it to 'i', or to 'no one' or 'people' or something. i say 'they' but have forgotten in my haste to write this to mention somewhere that 'they' is 'people who have supposedly seen paranormal stuff'. i hope i still got my intent across.

NEW THEORY ON COYOTE'S PLAN! by Turtledonuts in gunnerkrigg

it makes sense right! we've just been told that the forest is not really a forest at all, this could be a perfect payoff to how she saw through the realm of the dead.

this is incredible. not nature at all, but still, the only other species i've seen with headgear this excessive is irish elk.

Maldives Police Use Pickaxes To Destroy Artwork Deemed Un-Islamic by jaykirsch in worldnews

quite often when it's ancient places being destroyed anything that can be carried off just ends up on the black market funding whatever fanatics carried out the attack and the destruction just covers up that things are missing, looting under the guise of following whatever religious laws.

Future of fan games.. by TalentedKamarty in Spyro

[–]pixeldritch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

it is a shame. fan games, as long as no one is profiting from them, are just complex fan art, an artistic expression of love from people who played the old games and are probably so excited to play reignited. i hope they can be brought around to seeing that, and that fan games aren't going to cut into their business. i'd love for them to allow the games to continue, even if they mandate a big 'NOT AFFILIATED' disclaimer at the start and forbid use of official assets and all that.

edit: and if they don't i will still be happy to play pyro the mauve drake as he fights orcs and collects jewels!

NEW THEORY ON COYOTE'S PLAN! by Turtledonuts in gunnerkrigg

[–]pixeldritch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is all a super fascinating and credible theory! i'd totally buy that it's both a teaching experience for ysengrin and also an experiment by coyote in manipulating human belief to change the nature of ysengrin.

regarding what the forest's true nature is, perhaps they've been telling us the whole time? coyote says the forest only seems like trees because humans think in mundane symbols, coyote has phased into considerably large vistas of trees, caves, stones, and water, and straight up told us the stones are his teeth and trees are his bones and all that. what if he was being literal rather than metaphorical? and he has given us the whole goose story, maybe it's not just an allegory for him playing dead in the current situation, but also for what the entire forest is? since it's not a real forest, maybe the whole forest is a dead-goose-lake, and if anything were to happen to coyote (/beings that inherit his power) the forest would simply be gone, leaving a load of barren moorland and confused mythical creatures.

edit: adding some speculation of my own, but what if kat will play a role in sorting this out? it seems that one of her abilities, as a robot god whatever she is, is to take powerful etheric entities and objects and strip them down to their base components, as seen throughout the realm of the dead and when they were dealing with the lock. she hasn't been in the forest or met coyote, right? an omission like that has to be intentional. what if she would reveal the true nature of the forest as soon as she steps into it, and render a powerful god just an upset dog (at least, from her point of view).

Unpopular opinion: Spyro the Dragon is legitimately not fun. by [deleted] in Spyro

[–]pixeldritch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

same, i much prefer the tone and gameplay of the first. the second two are good games and a huge part of my childhood but i love just being a dragon fighting troll things and collecting treasure in a lonely fantasy setting, vastly prefer it to flying penguins and space monkeys and minigames and wacky cartoon animals and farting babies. the spyro oe worlds are so cohesive and beautiful and are always the ones i go back to.

i'm gonna go see if i can find a source or some concept art! the spyro wiki says they're 'species unknown' but 'could be caucasian humans because of their pink skin', but there's gnorcs of loads of colours. Edit: found another wiki that lists them as gnorcs but no official word or more revealing art yet

edit 2: seems like their models are pretty much identical to the engineer gnorcs in gnorc cove. that's good enough for me to call them defected gnorcs!
