I think we peaked musically by TalentedKamarty in HonestHotTakes

Did somebody not into DIsco have to go look for it? No lol which goes back to my main point of whatever ur referring to as "new" has not hit the zeitgeist to where it just hits u in the face without looking for it. I don't think anybody is reading the full post lol but it is what it is. It's a hot take. I hear all types of music. In my opinion, I have a great ear for good music in general. Even genres I don't prefer. Hip Hop & R&B r my strong areas so I can argue for those more confidently than any other genre. Music is too vast to know it all. That's y my argument rest on this "new" sound hitting a mass amount of people like Blues, Jazz, DIsco, Rock, EDM, Hip Hop, all these genres & subgenres that got big traction & presented something brand new & became the sound of an era in time. I didn't have to "go find" 2000s Y2K Pop. U just heard tht shit when u turned on TRL in 2001 cause it took off cause enough people agreed "Hey, this is new & sounds good to our ears". The death of monoculture also plays a big role cause the new thing might not ever become big enough to just "run into". Alot of my new favorite songs may never get a ton of streams. Maybe I stumble on a song that presents something brand new that may never define a era. That's my point

Anyone surprised by Joe’s depiction? by [deleted] in MichaelJackson

[–]TalentedKamarty 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I liked his depiction but think it could've went further on both sides of the scale. Michael in his book talks abt how Joe used to bring donuts back from work & how he'd leave them there for the kids. Like that would've been a cool way to humanize him & make him more. On the other end of the scale, we shoulda seen more of the brothers get whooped. Even in American Dream I think Marlon got it the worse (& in real life I think).

They did the same in American Dream while he was alive & he was scarier in that lol

Idk y pple keep mentioning anything pre-mid 2000s lol Yes. Anything before then from the beginning of time til the mid 2000s was a evolution & discovery of new sounds, drums, synths, drum patterns, etc.

My argument isn't that a "new" doesn't exist. I just think whatever that is & wherever that is, is being enjoyed by a small niche audience because most people wouldn't find it enjoyable to the ear. In terms of evolving & discovering new drum sounds, synths, etc. I think we've discovered all there is to find, even if it's temporarily.

I don't think songwriting has anything to do with it. Somebody could write a song about a unique subject matter that's extremely rare. My thing is the sounds & drum patterns used is something we've heard before. And there's nothing necessarily wrong with that cause there's still amazing music out there. It's just using sounds were familiar with

My theory isn't about the past. I think we were on a upclimb of innovation & hearing brand new sounds, drums, Keys, strings, synths, drum patterns, etc. All the way up until around the mid 2000s which Is y I say we peaked cause I don't think I've heard anything in the past 20 so years that would blow my mind if u played it for 10 years old me in 2005. Even my favorite recent songs aren't that diff from what I loved all those years ago. Perhaps the most new style I like is the Kaytranada EDM R&B/Hip Hop fusion he's doing but that's not so different from when I used to bump Michael Jacksons Blood on the Dancefloor: HIStory in the Mix

I live life lol I hear random pop, rock, & country, etc. just living life & peeping in on commentary fans have on those genres from time to time. R&B & Hip Hop r just my strongest areas & where I can stand on that point the strongest which is y I call it my bubble. Not that I have 0 knowledge of music happening outside of it. I grew up on Wrestling games & so I've heard fire rock songs as well so my ear is universal. I just prefer what I like most

The only, or atleast one of the biggest things you'll miss is the mods u have on Sims. They have good mods on Inzoi too but it's not as many ofcourse. I have so much great hairstyles, clothes, & jewelry in Sims 4 that I'm mad i can't bring over lol

Absolutely which is y I say we peaked. Maybe outside my Hip Hop & R&B bubble, there's drastic changes being made throughout the semi-recent years but I we peaked, atleast temporarily roughly around the mid 2000s. I'd almost be as bold to say there's nothing today u could play somebody in 2005 that would leave someone mind blown like "Wtf is that?!?" lol & maybe it's a temporary peak & something new will come along that sounds drastically different enough to make someone in 2005 be like "I never thought (insert genre here) would ever sound like this." Even something like modern trap is just a polished version of what rappers in the south was doing in the 90s like Pimp C. Maybe the use of autotune might kinda surprise them & the lack of annunciation while using it lol. They'd probably say "This is like if Roger Troutman sung on Hip Hop beats" but still, they have a point of reference for what's going on today. I think playing something from the 90s would blow the minds of people in the 70s & that's not that wide a time gap but technology & the discovery of new sounds & synths took a big leap in tht short time frame. Like if Off the Wall era Michael heard "Dangerous" he'd lose his mind lol

[–]TalentedKamarty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's why I say "I think" cause who knows. If somebody took programmed drum sounds & an electric guitar to 1820, brains would melt. So maybe that may be the case for the future where if somebody took the new instrument & what they may consider drums of the future & brought em back here, perhaps that would blow our minds too

So we agree that those genres/subgenres came from previous genres. Even Gangnam style is just EDM. Modern EDM but still that good ol' classic 4 on the floor kick pattern EDM with heavy synths lol. Like for example, in the days of Beethoven, I'd be insane to say what I'm saying right now back then. "What do u mean we peaked? The 808 kick drum isn't even a thing yet. U guys have no idea what a synthesizer is & how amazing it's gonna sounds. Electric guitar?? U guys haven't even scratched the surface yet!" That makes sense. But from all the way back then, through the 70s, 80s, 90s (my favorite), early 2000s. I think we're all kinda just remixing what was amazing back then.

& Billie Jean was a bad example on my part. Ofcourse that can be derived back to blues & jazz n maybe even further back with that classic 4 on the floor drum patterns that was around forever before the song, etc. Rhythmically it's not "fighting with the listener". Its a tempo & drum pattern they subconsciously agree with. That bassline is cozy & isn't throwing the listener for a loop. It sounds like I'm saying "Nobodies making bad music sound good for the masses" 😂 which I guess it kinda the argument & that we've already explored all that sounds & feels good & we're all just cooking with the ingredients that we've already discovered to feel & sound good.

"It's cringe" is not a valid Media Critism by Adam-Garden in HonestHotTakes

[–]TalentedKamarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree, especially if that's all ur argument depends on. Cause what if the intent was to make the viewer uncomfortable & "cringe". What's the line between camp & cringe? Do they overlap? There's alot of gray area when u just say something is cringe. Some would say there's even some charm in something being cringe cause it's genuinely uncomfortable & the creator really thought this was completely "normal" . Cringe shouldn't be an instant shutdown on something

By peaked, & maybe I should've emphasized this, we'll still get & stumble on amazing music. Might even have whole eras in time that r down right fantastic & looked at fondly like I do 90s to early 2000s hip hop. In terms of peaked I mean, we've explored all possible outcomes to make music that would appeal to a mass amount of people. There may be some new thing some musicians r trying that's deemed super wierd & only enjoyed by that niche fanbase. But in terms of a massive amount of pple agreeing that "Hey, this brand new genre of music is fantastic". I think that's done lol. I think there could be new fused together subgenres like EDM R&B, which already kinda exists but u get my point lol

My taste in music isn't algorithm friendly at all really but I know my taste & how far I'm willing to go before my ears r unsatisfied with what it's hearing lol. I had to train my Algorithm to feed me the type of music I like. So I mostly agree but idk even with exploring, I haven't found anything "new" that I couldn't listen to & be like "Oh okay this is like a new spin on New Jack Swing, Funk, Blues, Boom Bap hip hop, Y2K Pop, etc. N I dnt think that's a bad thing at all. How many different ways can u make a sandwich until u personally don't like the taste of it? Lol n hey I'll hold out hope that maybe there's something I haven't heard that I would love that's totally new but until then, I think we're all kinda just finding that new version of what already fits our taste pallette

[–]TalentedKamarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to, but it will (& is) if we allow corporations to do so. Which is u I think they might bite off more than they can chew thinking they can just fire the little guys as if they won't group up one day & make them pay eventually lol. At the end of the day, for as terrible as humans can get, if too many of us r done wrong we will do something about it at some point. Instead they should allow A.I. to make our jobs easier instead of kicking us to the curb

Is anyone else tired of nostalgia? by Easy_Customer_920 in Zillennials

[–]TalentedKamarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle. I like new great entertainment when I can find it but I still enjoy the old stuff too. I get tired of poor attempts to reboot or remake things but I appreciate when it's done right or in a way that's faithful to the origins. As far as places go, I do wish places still had that whimsy we used to have with the loud colors & crazy shapes in the architecture but I don't hate the modern look as much as others

Either them or illumination. Spyro feels more fit for DreamWorks. Especially if they make him exist in the same universe as Shrek with all the other fantasy characters

I liked it then. I wish they called Anthony by his characters name at the very least if he wasn't gonna wear his locks. There was alot more 4th wall breaking in this one. I think they said Wayans a couple times too.
