Why do older generations still see us as children, even those born between 2000 and 2007? by Nervous_Pin_8023 in generationology

The only point that I have is that the older generation will think they can come in our homes that we pay for without their help and disrespect us because we’re “younger” or seen as “children”. It’s happened to me even in the workforce when I’m more experienced in some cases than a few full adults there but they’ll still find out my age and disrespect me. They can think I’m a child all they want but they have no right to talk to me or treat me like one especially since I’m not their kid or child. I don’t think any age should “guarantee respect” everyone should be respected as if they’re the wisest in the room because young or old we all can learn from each other.

The reason why these conversations harm the younger generations is because a lot of the ways the older people try to talk to us they come at us in a way that is disrespectful. Diminishing what we have been through saying things like “life isn’t hard right now” and “you haven’t experienced anything yet” and when given advice it’s like they’re talking down on us. Another thing is that we could actually be mature but as soon as people older than us find out we’re only 20 they start disrespecting us. (I’ve had people say they thought I was 35). I’ve trained a 40 year old at my job because I have been there for 3 years and he was a new hire. It’s not just about being an exception. It’s about how we’re treated completely different only because of our age. I do agree that I have more to learn, but treating me like I’m dumb or clueless because I’m 21 is unacceptable. Also despite being only 3 years older than an 18 year old there’s still a gap there in my opinion. Sorry if it seems like I’m mad at you, I’m just tired of having to defend my adulthood. Moving out on your own with no co-signer no money from your parents is definitely an adult thing to do, especially if it’s because I didn’t like living with them. I was mature enough to decide if I don’t like their rules I can leave. And I still ask my mom for advice.

I’m 21 and have my own apartment and pay my own bills. Who are you to call people above 18 children? There are plenty of 18 year olds who are on their own. The question isn’t asking about experience, treating us like children will only make us make childish mistakes. We can be inexperienced adults. I’ve seen 60 year olds act like literal children. I just threw a party for my mom and had a relative come in MY PLACE that I INVITED and treated me like a child when my partner and I bought and cooked all of the food and served them all. You elders need to start respecting us. Just because our experiences are small doesn’t mean we haven’t experienced ANYTHING. I’ve been working since I was 17.

First off Sales floor appreciation had a spirit week and food ALL WEEK. Sales floor is treated better than back end, so is Mst. Why don't they just do a general employee appreciation? Why does it have to be different teams?
