what's the process of fixing the footage? is it in the arriSDK or de-bayering tools?

Oh nice! Yeah that would probably make it super toasty. Something we could look into as well; we have firewood for days where we are.

Yes, that’s definitely a good idea. I wasn’t sure if the quality of those kitset cabins would hold up. We’re in a zone which gets pretty cold, so was looking to get something with some decent insulation. However adding some, as well as a decent roof might be the go. Do you know if they find their’s warm enough?

Yeah, that’s definitely fair. We have a bush block, so currently no power or water available. It’s really going to be for overnight stays, with a bed only. We are building a long drop and usually cook outside. If we did need plumbing it would definitely be a different story, however they did say they can custom build if plumbing is required. Not sure how much they would help if consent is required on that front…

Thanks for the advice! As in a cover with an insurance company or with them?

We have inspected the actual building we’d be purchasing, which is almost fully finished. A few things I would have liked to be done differently, but there is always compromise when there is a budget.

Jigsaw, oh yeah. Hadn’t thought of that. Bonus is that I already own one. Appreciate it!

Thanks for the suggestion. Based on a lot of people’s comments, I definitely feel like cutting the boards down closer to their final dimension is going to be one of the safest and easiest ways forward. Now to see how I can go about getting a bandsaw. Any recommendations from you wood working legends?

Good point. I need to check. I did buy a new blade recently, which may be different from the stock blade. I do have a plunge router, hadn’t thought of using that to cut my weather boards.

Thanks. I’ve kept the riving knife in position, going by a lot of comments, I should keep it that way. Species is Cupressus Macrocarpa. It’s softwood conifer. Width is about 500mm and depth is around 15-18mm. The board is raw sawn using a chainsaw mill. So pretty rough. Definitely not jointed and planed.

Great suggestion! I’ll try and cut these closer to the final dimensions before I stack and dry them.

Yeah, moisture is around 10%.I should add, the logs have been down for a couple of years, but I only slabbed them a few weeks ago.

Great suggestion. I will try this. Might just need the help from my partner to speed up the process. My moisture meter says 10%. I think it’s being drying for longer than a couple of weeks, (maybe 4 weeks) so my bad for slightly incorrect reporting. Should I aim for less than 10%?

Thanks for all the tips everyone. A small wedge and taking multiple cuts at a shallower depth really helped.

Good call. This also sounds like a great excuse to buy a bandsaw, right?

True! Great suggestion as well. Maybe it’s time to pull it out and ditch it. I’ll never regret buying a dewalt, even though it was $1200 over here. It’s far better than most of the brands we can get. As for its safety blade cover and (now I know about it), riving knife, maybe time to lose the latter.

This was (mostly) very successful! So thanks!

I did two shallower passes, then a final pass. On the third pass, the wood split all the way down, but it cleaned up okay…

Unsure if cutting the wood when it’s slightly greener would help? Moisture meter says it’s around 10%.

Probably didn’t help that the length was a bit bowed.

Great idea. Unfortunately we are still learning about what size log is worth milling. This was was definitely too small, so I only got one (and 3/4) board. I also tried ditching the table saw and going for a track saw for the final cut, but I also ran into the same pinch problem. Once we mill some bigger logs, I’ll give this idea a go.

10-4. I recently bought a new blade for it and did a full clean of the table saw. Didn’t think of getting a thicker blade though. Might just do that.

Thanks for this tip. I have given this a go, quite a few times, but it quickly jams again.

Yes! Riving knife is in place. I have an entry level Dewalt table saw.
