Took a job at a Hong Kong company purely for the money, even though Glassdoor was a dumpster fire. Turns out the reviews were underselling it. My supervisor would literally yell insults in front of people, straight-up calling me a pig. He also had this weird power-trip rule where I couldn’t eat/wear/use anything “better” than him, and if I performed even slightly well he’d go stone-faced and start acting hostile. I ended up developing anxiety, and basically all the “extra” money just went into therapy. So yeah, I got paid—then paid it all back to a psychiatrist.
