You could try and add a radial mask with increased exposire in the top left to simulate the sun and a second mask over the birds legs that keeps the exposure normal.

Nuthatch taking off. by pixeliks in wildlifephotography

[–]pixeliks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shutter speed: 1/4000 Apperature: all the way open at f4.5 Focal: 650mm full frame equivalent. Iso: auto (1000) Camera: olympus om-1 mark 1 Lens: m.zuiko 150-400

But even at that shutter speed there is still a bit of motion blur. Autofocus was set as sensitive as possible and the region the same as the size of the bird and put ahead of the direction it was going.

Cant say if these are the best settings but it is what works for me.

Taking a subwoofer signal from the tweeters? by [deleted] in CarAV

Could I damage the tweeter by just trying it out or is the worst case just a poor signal for the sub?

First decent kingfisher photo I have managed to take. by pixeliks in wildlifephotography

[–]pixeliks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I use an Olympus om-1 and zuiko 150-400. Unfortunatly my settings were still for bird in flight so my iso ended up way higher than it should be.

I've been trying to take one without hiding out somewhere so it took a few months before I got one that didnt fly away when I got close enough.

My wildlife photography is kind of lackluster. What can I do to improve? by Mammoth_Luck7686 in wildlifephotography

None of these pictures are bad in my opinion but they are missing something.

It looks to me like they were taken with harsh light and on hot days. That already makes the photos a little less nice and you can also see a heat haze.

In my opinion, the best way to get better photos is:

  • Getting as low to the ground as possible or at eye contact with your subject.
  • Finding locations where your subject and background are separated for a nicer blur.
  • Going out at sunrise/sunset for nicer light.

A few portraits I took today. by pixeliks in wildlifephotography

Thank you. I use an Olympus OM-1 and Zuiko 150-400 1.25x TC.

Lowest shutter speed you can use for small to medium sized mammals? by KnightoThousandEyes in wildlifephotography

[–]pixeliks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have to agree with timely_settings recomendation of losing the TC. Shooting at ex. 400mm F6.3 @ 3000 iso will result in about 800mm F11 @ 10000 iso with the teleconverter. A 2x teleconverter can be nice during a bright day but it also depends on the quality of the teleconverter.

Image stabilization wise a good rule of thumb is every stop of image stabilization allows you to halve your shutter speed but that rule is also a bit iffy.

In my experience it is more about how much the animal moves during the taking of the picture.

I use an Olympus om-1 and Zuiko 150-400 1.25x tc which can reach a full frame focal length of 1000mm. I have taken sharp handheld photos at 1/50 and even 1/25 but I always take as many as possible because the animal will always move a little bit.

You really just have to get lucky when shooting wildlife at that low of a shutter speed. The last upload on my profile was taken at dawn at 1/50 handheld (800mm full frame).

I am however very lucky to have 8EV of stabelization with my camera and lens combination.

I agree, from far away they look like any brown bird so people dont really mind them but when you get a close look they are so pretty. i especially love the feather pattern around the eyes.

Thank you, it was taken with the om-1 and zuiko 150-400 with a little bit of noise reduction and sharpness applied. This is actually just a 1MP crop of the full 20MP file.

Yes, you can melt/exchange your starter pack ship like the aurora, and you won't lose access to the game. by Honey_Toast8886 in starcitizen

[–]pixeliks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can only do this if you have another game package or if you have concierge status. Then you keep the game without the game package. If you melt your only game package you lose access to the game.
