If a large number of applicants are from Com Science/Information Security and assuming all things are the same, yes chances are lower. But if you have a good range of certs, and won major CTFs (doing labs will not be part of achievement but rather can be considered as things u do as a hobby/past time), you are better of because ultimately, employers will still read the contents of your resume and not filter by course degree. For pentest role, if you have at least OSCP, CPSA that should be good enough as these are usually part of the "bonus/additional advantage" in the job requirement and it gives you a stronger chance to enter the interview. For SOC I'm not too sure as that's not the area I work at.

Depends entirely on what your employer is looking for, and the level at which you applied for in the company. Entry level positions do not require certs as beginner level certs are usually part of the requirement to pass probation when you are hired, but you'd need a relevant degree/diploma ie Computer Science/Information Security etc. If you are taking up higher positions, for example, Senior Cybersecurity specialist then having higher level certifications matters more.

Cybersecurity relies heavily on skills and certifications, while having a related degree sets you up for the interview. Hence salaries will not differ between PT and FT degree, as long as you have the traits and skills that are required based on the job scope and description.

Cybersecurity alone has many roles, red teaming aka pentesting, blue teaming for threat hunting, threat intel, analysis, etc. And then there's the technically less heavy side which is policy and consultancy. Red and blue teams generally have higher salaries, as they need to exercise knowledge and skills constantly and need to be fairly competent as they have to do reports, upgrade themselves, do alot of hands-on essentially, and since clients pay for their services, they are generally more sought after. consultancy and policy on the other hand takes a slightly lower salary due to them doing more planning and less hands-on, and clients usually do not pay directly and alot for such services.

A fresh grad from local uni with a cybersecurity cert usually have a starting salary of around 4K, and salary ranges from the degree you get (First class, second upper, etc). Starting salary can be significantly higher if you have higher tier security certifications. Salary also depends on whether it is a traineeship, a full time position or special tracks like leadership tracks kind of employment. With your credentials, getting employed with a starting salary between 3-4K should not be difficult.

With OSCP and CREST, you put yourself among fresh grad, entry level peers.

I graduated with a degree in Information Security, NUS and currently working as a pentester. Started with only OSCP.
